History of our Independence Day

Rhode Island for the last six weeks, has had so many sunless day and lots of rain and thunderstorms

It has been very damp and wet with so much rain. I do hope the skies are clear and the sun comes out for our parade in Bristol.

“I cannot believe there has been this much rain in the sky, and it’s all coming down on Rhode Island”

Fourth of July Parade in Bristol, R.I

Bristol. RI has the oldest Fourth of July parade in the US, which has been holding its Fourth of July Celebration since 1785. The Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will step-off at the corner of Chestnut Street and Hope Street (Rt. 114) and ends on High Street, between State Street and Bradford Street.

DID YOU KNOW?

The States that ban all consumer fireworks are (5) Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey.

For those of you in the 39 states that allow fireworks, please be careful. Fireworks are fun but they can definitely be dangerous.

A few tips on what to do to make sure that you have a great time at your fireworks display show this 4th of July celebration in your state.

• CHAIRS: Make sure you bring some chairs for the entire family. Most of the time you will find yourself relaxing and looking into the sky as you enjoy the fireworks show.
• DRINKS: Bring a cooler with drinks for the family. Many times these fireworks shows get extremely full and you are left to park on the side of the road and try to enjoy the show. Just make sure you are ready.
• TIMING: Make sure you know the time when the fireworks start. The worst thing is missing out on fireworks because you have the time incorrect.
• CLOTHING: Depending on where you live, pay careful attention to the weather. You want to enjoy this day, so make sure you dress appropriately based on the weather.

Pawtucket. Fireworks, McCoy Stadium, Columbus Avenue. After the Team USA vs. Team Chinese-Taipei 6 pm baseball game. 724-7300.

Newport. Fireworks, over Newport Harbor, 9:15 to 9:30 pm, set off from Fort Adams. Rain date, July 5.

North Kingstown. Fireworks,Lafayette Band Concert, Band Shell, 7 pm. Town Beach, Beach Street, 9 pm.

Coventry . Fireworks, Johnson's Pond, 9 pm. Rain date is July 5.

Portsmouth.Fireworks, Escobar's Farm, 133 Middle Rd. 9:30 pm.

South Kingstown.Fireworks, Old Mountain Field, 875 Kingstown Rd., Wakefield. Concert 7 pm opens with the Ted Collins Band; fireworks 9 pm. Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.

Founded in 2005 primarily as a means of funding the (GCS) The Gate City Striders running club's Triad Racing Team is 3C Race Productions LLC, a professional race production company based in Merrimack, New Hampshire. They produce 25-30 top quality events every year in New England: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island.

The Gate City Striders running club is more than 600 members strong serving Southern New Hampshire and the Merrimack area. "They offer something for every type of running enthusiast, be you a fitness or
recreational walker, race walker, beginner jogger, competitive runner or elite athlete."

3C Race Productions LLC has grown into a full-service, professional race production company in its own right, and continues to fund the GCS Triad Racing Team with proceeds from its events.

Additional proceeds are directed towards local charities for all 3C Race Productions LLC events.

Yesterday, June 24, 2009 in Bristol, RI was the 3rd Annual Colt State Park 5K, produced by 3C Race Productions LLC with the results by Yankee Timing 978-430-5669.

There were 144 registered participants, including my son, Mark Alan Corbett, a member of our Corbett Team. His Dad, our beagle, Buddy, and myself walked along. It was a cloudy dark day with drizzle and scattered showers, no sun and a bit cool 63 degrees, in fact a bit cooler in the 50's by the water.

THE RESULTS
They ranged from 18:23 to 54:59

First to #143 race participant
Mark came in #122 at 39:09

Good job, Mark "We are proud of you"
