Tiverton was originally incorporated in 1694, as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. After a long dispute she was annexed to Rhode Island in 1746. The town was incorporated in 1747. For approximately three years during the Revolution when the British held Aquidneck Island, Tiverton was an asylum for Americans fleeing from British occupation, and the town became a mustering point for Colonial forces who gathered together to drive the British off the island. I obtained this information from the Town Web Site (link below) for a more detailed history and wonderful photos please visit their site. With that said let me show you Tiverton through my eyes.

I have lived in Tiverton my whole life. I have seen many changes in this town. Tiverton is a great coastal town with it's share of farm land, woods, and equestrian homesteads.

Things I Miss:

The 4Th of July Parade. Don't get me wrong we could never match the oldest parade of our neighbor Bristol, RI but it was ours and I loved it. My mother once had the privilege and honor of being the Grand Marshal. I was very proud. Next the re-enactment of the Battle of Fort Barton also on the 4th of July. It may be called something else but when you are born and raised in Tiverton it is the Battle of Fort Barton. For you history buffs go to http://newportvisions.com/home/barton1.htmlnice article. We would place our blankets at the top of Fort Barton hill near the town hall and wait for The Red Coats to charge the hill to be followed by shouts of "Don't shoot til you see the white of their eyes". Guns and musters would be fired to display an impressive battle. The Getty Gas Station down the road. Very inconvenient. Grand Central Market the one and only grocery store in town. Not to fear Fall River, MA is only seven minutes from town.

Things I Still Love:

The Ocean and the Seafood some of the best offered. fogland

The rest of the country calls this a clam:

Quahogs

But in fact we call them Quahogs. We dig them in our backyard and make chowder, stuffies, and white spaghetti with quahogs.

Old Grist Mill 4 Corners

Tiverton four corners. This is one of my favorite places in town. Staying true to the history and integrity of our town. There are many antiques stores, art galleries, specialty stores that adhere to that small town quaintness. For more information on four corners visit http://www.farmcoastnewengland.com//towns.htm.

Honey Store

milkhoneybazaar

A new addition to Four Corners is the Milk & Honey Bazaar. Mind you when I say new it means somewhere in the last ten years or so. I love the look of this store and The Grist Mill proudly displaying their New England charm.

Did I mention boating and fishing. Whether by sail, motor, or Orr it is always a great day to be on the sea. I love to go fishing even though most say I don't fish. I go with a book enjoy the sun and watch others fish. To me that is a great day fishing. I heard the stripers were practically jumping in your boat this year. We went fishing one time a friend of ours caught a tiny baby Lobster (yup with a rod and reel) and we caught star fish. No fish either time but you never know what you will catch.

Weetamoe Woods

For a change there are places you can visit places like Weetamoe Woods, Fort Barton, and Widelife Preserves. As you can see by the photo provided by Tom Holz we don't lack woods and nature. I love this photo because it captures the stone walls that liter the woods from days gone by and farms that once existed.

Icons and New Comers:

Gray's Ice Cream at Four Corners. When I was a kid we always went there after a day at Fogland Beach. As you can see everybody loves Gray's Ice Cream.

Bridgeport Seafood

Evelyn's ClamsBridgeport Seafood - Love the rock crabs!

New Comer: The Black Goose Cafe. Nice coffee shop with outdoor seating. Very different selection of food and deserts. Just looking at their tasty treats I gain ten pounds. Love the coffee. Many other drink selections also well worth a visit.

Please bare with me for some last photos showing the weather. We do get to enjoy all four seasons here.

When you live by the ocean, as many of you know, she's a lovely lady but never forget her power. Thanks to our fisherman who don't always have the choice of appreciating her beauty but deal with power.

I hope I have succeeded in showing the Tiverton I love. Some say our taxes are high but I disagree we have six schools, police, and fire. Our trash still gets picked up with out paying for trash bags and the snow gets removed from the streets in a timely fashion. The crime rate is low, the scenery beautiful, and access to water and beaches are provided to everyone. If you have never been to Tiverton you should mark it as a place to visit. We are located to many small coastal communities and cities also if feel you are relaxing to much. Thank you to Katy, Phillip, Tom, and Kit for allowing me to use their photos as you can see I am not much of a photographer (maybe it's my camera - gotta blame something). I hope you enjoy this post. Below are some statistics and a link to the town hall (they have some pretty great photos also). Now on to the next town Warren, RI or maybe Bristol, RI. As Always Enjoy and be Happy,

Good News...From a Newspaper?

Tim Lamont
Tim Lamont: Real Estate - Other in Waltham, MA

It seems the bad news concerning the housing and mortgage markets far outweighs the good. However, the impression I get is that's mainly due to the coverage choices the various news sources make. Bad news sells, so they report more bad news.

Finally, here is an articlefrom the Providence Journal that shows a bit of good news. Granted, the price ranges discussed dont apply to most people, but at least the "feel" of the article is positive.
