South County Balloon Festival- Kingston RI 02881 - July 22-24. It is one of the top twenty summer events, as noted in Yankee magazine, so do not miss out on this great local event. The balloon festivat is located on the University of RI campus off of Route 138 in Kingston RI. The events not only include the famous hot air balloons in all their splendor but live music, racing pigs, kite flying, carnival rides & games, trapeze acts, crafts, food, petting zoo and more.

Even with the heat this weekend this South County Balloon Festival will draw thousands to it. The Wakefield Rotary Club is the sponsor as part of their generous fund raising activities for the local community. They have raised over $1 million over the years for charitable giving projects. A tremendous effort by all so come out for a low cost to support and enjoy this wonderful event.

Admission: $10/adult, $5/kid or $25 for a family.

What do you know about Modular Homes Today? Modular home manufacturers have changed how they construct, design and appeal to home buyers in a tough new construction market especially in RI. I have seen some very attractive designs put up as well as some that just look like boxes added here and there to the house to increase living space requirements.

At Eldred Farm in Kingston RI, a RI builder, Paul Schurman, is stepping it up a notch with a mini eight home development of modular homes from Westchester Modular Homes in New York.

At present, he is putting one home up on a 8.5 acre parcel of land that borders the University of Rhode Island. A choice location and South Kingstown neighborhood for any buyer who wants to be close to all the events happening in Kingston RI. This home came in two pieces at the end of June and is expected to be finished and completed by the end of July (finish work and additional items added by the builder). I missed the modular set the day it came but stopped by the other day to see how it looks and I was impressed.

The home amenities are large Andersen windows, tile kitchen and bathroom floors, maple cabinets in the kitchen, high ceilings, crown moldings, granite counters, hardwoods, etc. The home itself is in keeping with the traditional style of the Kingston community but each home built will vary in outward colonial design. About 1800 square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, dining room, eat in kitchen, living room & the master bedroom has a side sitting area with walk in closet. Central air is included right now as well as tie in to town sewers and gas heat.

An open house is scheduled for August 7th from 1-3 pm for interested buyers and/or renters- so stop by for more information. I will do another post to show the finished house product in another week or so.
It has been awhile since I have seen a modular home of this caliber and I am pleasantly impressed. Costs can run as much as 20% cheaper then from scratch. Obviously, budget considerations are something any buyer needs to consider.

Potters Farm - Kingston RI 02881 - South Kingstown RI Neighborhood. Wild Plant Society Annual Event- Plant Sale- June 4 East Farm, Kingston RI 02881.  This is considered the best plant sale in Rhode Island and it only happens once a year.  If you are a member of the RI Wild Plant Society you know to be there early and bring a wagon to buy all the unusual and selective offerings at this wild plant sale...see the members of the RI Wild Plant Society get to shop early like at 8:30 a.m. while the rest of us wait with baited breath... for that exotic trillium or what may be the prize of the day and hope it is still available at the true opening at 9 a.m.
