Bloomberg's Businessweek is out with its Best Places to Raise Your Kids 2011 list and Rhode Island has two villages within the town of South Kingstown that made this definitive list - Peacedale and Wakefield RI. Whether it is finding the best place to retire or live in the United States, the best place to raise one's kids is always at the forefront of home buyers minds when considering a town or city to live in.
Businessweek said that "they selected places to live not by any luxury 
status or towns that were inhabited by high income earners". As they said "Don't expect to find mansions and elite country clubs" here. Rather they stated "These are communities mostly inhabited by middle-income earners that have good public schools, low crime and resources to keep the family entertained on weekends".
What were the strong points that put these two South Kingstown villages on the Businessweek map on this fifth annual ranking? Interesting enough it was the water of the areas ponds and lakes, the amazing and well used South County Bike Path and also the closeness to the Atlantic ocean coastline and beaches as well as the proximity to the city of Providence.
"Wakefield and Peacedale retain the classic Northeast, small town feel," Businessweek said.
Having lived in Peacedale RI for a couple of years, I can certainly share that the ease for entertaining one's kids can be done with little money because of the wonderful pluses mentioned in the article- fishing on a shoe string, town beaches, and peddling a bike can easily make it more affordable for entertainment here for one's children. It has the waterfront feel and the suburban culture of small town without the fast pace of many other areas.
