Mary McClaskey, Chris Skrip, and Maria Skrip attended the Battle Color Ceremony at MCAS Beaufort tonight (9/16/08).

The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps marched out on the field in the most beautiful uniform (red jackets with white trousers). They performed 2 sets of 3 songs in the afternoon heat that you can only get in coastal South Carolina. I really can not even describe how GREAT these young men and women are in the Drum and Bugle Corps. It is one of those things that if you ever get a chance to see them in person, it will definitely be worth your time. It was stunning!

As soon as the Drum and Bugle Corps finished, the Silent Drill Platoon performed a precision drill that awed the crowd. Again, if you have never seen the Silent Drill Platoon, the only word I can use to describe them is amazing! Without calling out any orders, the members of this elite group being lead by the rifle inspector perform spins and exchanges of a M-1 rifle with a bayonet on the end of it!! All you hear during their demonstration is the click of the rifle in their hands as they perform the drill. Even though, I loved seeing the red jackets and white trousers, my all time favorite uniform in the U.S. Military is the Marine Corps dress blues!

Thank you, Col. Jack Synder for the invitation to this spectacular event! It is something that I will never forget.

MCAS Beaufort

Welcome to Fightertown USA - Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Anywhere you move in the military is an adjustment to a new environment, climate, new customs and courtesies, local food and all the other differences you will notice from what you are used to coming from other locations. Sometimes it feels like a culture shock and other times you feel at home and will never want to leave.

Most people feel somewhere in-between. Those of you who are used to relocating know that there are up sides and down sides to every move. Having moved 13 times in a 24-year career I looked at moving as a new opportunity!

There are all kinds of opportunities out there and it all depends on your attitude. From meeting new friends to shopping and finding great deals, Beaufort's "small town" atmosphere opportunities abound. You just have to look for them.

Check your Welcome Aboard packet - everyone should have received a Welcome Aboard packet before they arrived. It is chock full of information about Beaufort and surrounding area. The Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort website also offers a ton of information about the area, units and squadrons, MAG 31, and schools.

If you haven't already done so, you MUST check out Military OneSource. It is simply the most powerful website when it comes to gathering information.
