Isle of Palms has a lot to offer and is one of the more popular beach vacation islands in the Charleston area.

There are a lot of extra-large homes on Isle of Palms and a fair number of condos. The island saw a real growth during the last real estate boom, but there are still some classical beach cottages.

The beach on Isle of Palms has in the past, been voted one of the better ones on the East Coast. Very wide beaches and pretty white sand. Most of the island has free public beach access. If you want to park in the business district where the bars and restaurants are you will have to pay to park, but it is a nominal amount of money. There is also a county park adjacent to the Isle of Palms business district, that has showers and restrooms. This area gives you quickest access to the Isle of Palms fishing pier and is a good base for families with small children.

On one side of the island you have the beaches on the backside you have the intracoastal waterway.

On the tip of Isle of Palms you can find the world-renown Wild Dunes Resort. It offers some of the best clay court tennis in the state and two semi-private golf courses, the Links Course and Harbor Course. Wild Dunes has many condos, townhomes and a fair number of single family homes. The resort is gated and has a spa and several restaurants. Wild Dunes is popular with families, second homers and retirees.

Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes sit about 25 mins from Historic Charleston, SC. It is even closer to Mt. Pleasant, SC and you can easily access a lot of shopping, grocery stores and restaurants by taking the scenic Isle of Palms Connector into Mt. Pleasant.

The real estate on Isle of Palms is easiest to tour in the off-season or on the weekends. My comprehensive tours of the island usually last about 1 to 2 hours and are complimentary. Please contact me about a day and time that works for you.

Signature hole reopened at Wild Dunes Resort

A widely acclaimed Isle of Palms golfing spot is now reopened. One of the par-5 18th hole of the Wild Dunes Resort was closed for a month long redesign and renovation due to erosion. Tom Fazio, golf architect extraordinaire, headed up the design, making the award-winning course open to the public again.

"The 17th and 18th holes of the Links Course are two of the more spectacular finishing holes in the Southeast," said Fazio. "Playing on the ocean and amongst the dunes is as premier a location as you can get. It was true when the course was designed more than two decades ago, and it's still true today."

If you’re interested in trying out the course for yourself, check out the special that Wild Dunes Resort is offering through Sept. 3. The All Day Unlimited Play package (for $190 per person per night) allows guests to play as many rounds as possible on both the Resort's golf courses, the Links Course and the Harbor Course. This also includes a two night stay at the Resort.

SCGA Junior Amateur Golf

Local Isle of Palms young man wins the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Amateur Golf tournament.

Caulder Moore, son of Polly and Richard Moore of the Isle of Palms, shot an unbelievable 63 on the last day of the tournament to move from 5 shots behind the leader to 2 shots ahead of the leader.

To say that Caulder Moore had a great day in an understatement. Everyone is in awe of the day that Caulder had.

Caulder is a rising senior of Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant and plays on the Wando golf team. He has committed to University of South Carolina to play on their golf team.

The tournament was played at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw. Caulder has won quite a few golf tournaments in his short life, but this was a real thrill --- to win at home.

Also with this win came the treat as riding on the Club's mascot, Titleist, a 1400 pound Scottiosdh Highland bull. Caulder said "I'm really looking forward to it" but later added that the thought of climbing on the back of the bull was "a little scary".

Jackson Moore (Caulder's brother) came in 9th in the 13-14 age group. I'm particularly proud of Caulder and Jackson because I have watched them grow up -- you see, they are my grand-nephews.

You golfers out there, just remember these names --- Caulder Moore and Jackson Moore ----- you will hearing more from these talented young men.
