In an effort to keep the Lowcountry’s teens healthy, a new health clinic is opening just for them.

The Point Teen Center is a confidential place in Johns Island where teens can learn about sexual health. Family planning, birth control and STD screenings are some of the services offered.

This Thursday, Sept. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., teens can enjoy a fun and confidential open house called “Rock da House.” Teens are encouraged to stop by, learn about healthy living while in an open and accepting atmosphere.

Activities at The Point’s Rock da House include music, prizes and a variety of organizations and resources to help teens. Nintendo Wii, movies and computers with free Internet access will also be available. These activities are made possible through National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) funding.

The Point Teen Center is a partnership between the state Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Communities in Schools program.

The Point is located at 3574 Maybank Highway, Johns Island. The Rock da House open house will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3.
