The Hummingbirds Have Moved South

Sandy Childs - Spartanburg, SC Realtor®: Real Estate Agent in Spartanburg, SC

Every evening after work I love to sit on the patio and enjoy the hummingbirds. They are so delightful as they play and drink from the feeders in the back yard. I love to hear them chirp and flutter past. Sometimes they appear to even want to fight with one another touching their fluttering wings together ~ they have been so sweet this summer.

Tonight after work there were no chirping birds, only empty feeders.

Fall is upon us!

Hummingbirds in Spartanburg South Carolina

Sandy Childs - Spartanburg, SC Realtor®: Real Estate Agent in Spartanburg, SC

One of my favorite hobbies is watching the humming birds in my backyard. This is the second year that the sweet little hummers have decided to visit with me in groups.

Most of the birds that visit are ruby throat, although we do have a few more during their migration.

It is so relaxing to watch these little birds flutter by as they fly from feeder to feeder. They chase each other and then like to sit on the tips of the trees in the yard.

Do any of you love to watch these little birds?

Want to Know a Secret?

David Painter: Real Estate Agent in Spartanburg, SC

Since landscape is a subject I know something about, let me share the following with you:

Have you ever said: "Wow what a yard?" and wondered how that person got their grass to look so good - when yours looks tired and yellow. It may be that they started the year before by correctly fertilizing their yard in the fall. If your grass is a cool season grass, such as fescue, the correct time to fertilize is September, October and November. You do this by applying at least 1 lb of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft of yard. A good fertilizer to use is 16-4-8 with micro nutrients. Apply it 3 times during the fall season. This will get your grass growing great as it builds carbohydrates to take it through the winter season to the spring season as a lush beautiful yard.
