I live in the gated golf course community of Dunes West in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a suburb of Charleston. Our neighborhood is the largest gated community in the area. Why do I live in a gated community? Simple, it's where the house I liked is.
When we moved here in 1996 my little area of courtyard homes was just getting started and I wanted to buy the model home. The builder had no real desire to sell so my husband and the agent wrote 5 contracts before they finally secured my home for me....yes for me. I did not want to leave Atlanta and told my husband if I couldn't live in this house I would stay put...thank you very much.
Why did this home have such appeal? My back windows look out on the 9th fairway of the Dunes WestGolf Club, I have a lovely "courtyard" oasis with Roses, Hydrangeas, lots of Day Lilies and much more. My garden is so private I could sun bath in the nude if I wanted to. No big yard to keep up.
My house is about 3100 square feet with master on the main floor and enough room upstairs to push out the walls as my mother used to say when all the children and grands come home. My kitchen is long and narrow with more cabinets then I can fill. The two sided fireplace between the great room and the kitchen is a real treat in the cool mornings of winter.
Home Sweet Home is where my heart is. Where I can let down my hair and be me. Where my husband and I can enjoy each other. Oh, and our son Jeremy who is "special and lives with us. Stay tuned for more about him.
Come see me....I do give home tours!

When I moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a suburb of Charleston from Atlanta in 1996 real estate agents here were still carrying the MLS book and opening their lock boxes with a clunky key. Few had cell phones and even fewer had computers. It seemed to me that Atlanta was light years ahead. I was used to getting it done fast as in over the internet at the speed of "tech" fast and Interstate 75 and 285 at 60 or more miles an hour fast.
Welcome to the Lowcountry. I found that fast meant getting it done well with a Charleston twist. Real estate was done just as efficiently and professionally but with a less "fast" pace. No fax, no problem hand delivery was just fine. No cell, that's fine too just stop and borrow someones phone. Deadlines were met and real estate got sold without gadgets and with typewriters.

What does this have to do with today? A lot. Some of us have lost sight of what the basics are. A personal note is not the same as an email. A voice mail is not like getting someone on the phone. Faxing or emailing offers to other agents gets the job done quickly but it doesn't always convey who your buyer or seller really is and exactly what is there motivation. A smile and face to face chat can go a long way toward smoothing over a starter offer that may seem insulting.
Don't get me wrong I love my Droid and my laptop but I do write notes and I tell new agents to do the same. Personal trumps tech ya'll.

Welcome to Dunes West in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina...a suburb of Charleston. I call Dunes West home and so do over 1000 other families. Enter the gate and you find homes of all sizes and shapes. From courtyard homes with zero lot line to large homes on over an acre; Dunes West has it all. We even have homes on the Wando River with docks on deep water. Enter the gate and the first thing you see id the Arthur Hills designed golf course. Oh yes, Dunes West has avid golfers...I live with one but we also have young families, empty nesters and single people. The demographics are broad and there is something for everyone. Dunes West offers tennis courts with a full time pro, three pools, swim team for the younger set, work out facilities and so much more. The golf club serves breakfast and lunch each day and dinner currently each Thursday evening. Want to host a wedding? You couldn't ask for a better place and I know from experience. Our daughter was married under a giant Oak tree right off the 18th green. Dunes West in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is like no other place...

You can be sure it's spring when you see the sign...slow foxes at play. Each year the Mama fox digs under one of the might oaks leading to the Dunes West Golf Club clubhouse and gives birth to her den. In the years we have lived in Dunes West I have see the number of babies go from 2 to as many as 4. It's nature at it's best! They are nocturnal; drive by at night and you will see them. If you try and walk by the den early in the morning Mama will give you the look...don't walk near my babies look. As soon as the sun is bright and the golfers gravitate to the course Mom and the babies are back under the tree. As spring heats to summer they leave. Nothing remains but the hole. Wait until next year, watch for the sign and they will be back. I said we had broad demographics.
