One of goals in the activerain community is to focus on Localisms! Please, Please this holiday season support your local shops. I had a few minutes today on the way back from the bank and I decided to drop in one of my very favorite boutiques Hope Taylor & Company in Ocean Drive. Linda started this business several years ago and every year it has grown in popularity. One factor that made it so successful was the uniqueness of her inventory. She always carried a great selection of Brighton and Vera Bradley which I bought for the young women in our family as gifts so we chatted quite often but she also carried many one of a kind products. I had not stopped in for a few months, and I can't tell you how shocked I was to find out from her daughter that she was deceased recently from a longstanding illness that had been in remission for a few years.

Having said that, the daughter is struggling with the shop. She is downsizing and cutting expenses. With two small children, it is difficult to make some of the decisions she is making. She not only has lost her mother but she has lost a business mentor. Some who read this blog will visit Myrtle Beach this holiday season so I am asking you to drop by the shop. It is so easy to search online for gift items from big companies with big budgets for advertising but our small businesses that drive our communities are struggling. Please during this holiday...shop local and support your neighbors in their endeavors.
