As always, I suggest getting out and getting involved. If you do not tell our elected officials how you feel, then you cannot complain when they make some bonehead decision! Anyway, the School Board for Oconee is having a public meeting about the possible locations of the new Walhalla High School.
So on November 10, 2009 at 6:00 pm, the School Board for Oconee County will be meeting at Walhalla High School to receive public input for possible locations of the new Walhalla High School.
The Office of School Operational Services announced today the sites under consideration.
· The west side of Hwy 11 near Pickett Post Road - This site is approximately 100 acres and will have road frontage on Hwy 11 and a right of way to Pickett Post Road.
· The east side of Hwy 11 across from Winstead Road - This site is approximately 130 acres and will have road frontage on Hwy 11 and Country Junction Road.
· The south side of Hwy 28 beside Bobby Wood Chevrolet - This site is approximately 96 acres and will have road frontage on Hwy 28 and Hwy 11.
All of these locations are approximately 3 miles of the current high school site.
The public will have an opportunity to comment at the November 10th meeting. There will also be a link to survey opinion on the WHS site location on the district’s website at www.oconee.k12.sc.us beginning November 10-17th and the survey will be available in hard copy form. Hard copies of the survey will be available upon request by contacting the Office of School and Community Services, 886-4400 ext 1103, 1123 or 1102.

I am sure most of you know about the Oconee Heritage Center in Walhalla SC and know about the great work they are doing to educate everyone about our local history. But did you know that they are having their First Annual Heritage haunt this Saturday from 3pm to 9pm?
The festivites kick off at 3pm with the Time Warp Trick or treat which runs until the all ages costume contest at 430pm.
From 5 to 530pm they will be showing the family film "Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" which everyone knows is a Halloween classic.
But at 6pm they start the Frankenstein Film Fest & Pizza, and parental guidance is suggested since they will be showing "Frankenstein" from 1910 and "Young Frankenstein" from 1931. No since in scaring the younger ones after an afternoon of fun!
But I hope you will make plans to attend The Oconee Heritage Center's Heritage haunt will be taking place at 123 Brown's Square Drive in Walhalla.
For more information about the Heritage Haunt, please call 864-638-2224

I just blogged about Oktoberfest in Walhalla and thought I would share pictures!

Round and Round You Go

That Poor De-Horned Bulls Couldn't Buck this Cowgirl!

I wanted to join in, but they prefer you actually have talent

Sadly, the picture of me with a butterfly on my face didn't turn out

OK folks I have blogged about it and you have seen the pictures. I can say there were plenty of vendors, great food and rides for the young or young at heart! So, no excuses next year you will attend the Oktoberfest in Walhalla!

The 31st Annual Oktoberfest in Walhalla SC
October 16,17, 18th 2009
It has been almost 2 years since i had the extreme pleasure of attending Oktoberfest in Walhalla. It is a great event for the entire family. Don't think it is just Brats and Beer!
Each year since 1979, Walhalla has been hosting this event. It takes place at the Sertoma Field on Highway 183. There will be crafts, carnival rides for the young and the young at heart and of course, my favorite: FOOD! There will be wurst and kraut, strudel along with authentic German music and dancers. The last time I went one of the craft vendors was selling some great preserves and I bought a jar of Jalapeno Jelly. Sounds strange I know but try it on Townhouse crackers with cream cheese and you will be amazed.
The event kicks off Friday with the Opening ceremonies at 6PM followed by crafts, food and rides until 10PM when it is time for the Little German Band and Dancers.
Saturdays events start at 9AM and run all the way up to Midnite with Fireworks at 10PM. Some of the highlights of Saturdays's events is the Kinderhaus (Children's Art Center) from 1 to 5PM.
Sundays festivities start at Noon and run until 5PM. Plus the ad I saw said that there is a special on Sunday that Kids ride all day for $10! Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children 3-10 years and FREE for kids under 3!
