49th Annual Apple Festival

It is time again for Westminster to celebrate the apple harvest with the 49th Annual South Carolina Apple Festival. It has already started but a lot of events will happen this weekend on Sept 11th & 12th. Carnival and fair rides will be set up in the heart of downtown Westminster.

Tomorrow there will be the Apple Baking Contest at Westminster Baptist Church. Entries will be accepted from 9-10Am and the judging begins at 11AM.

Then tomorrow night, there will be Music on Main from 6-8PM at the Apple Festival Pavilion on Main Street.

Friday will be a big day with the Arts & Crafts Show going on from 11Am to 7PM, Kiddie Rides, & vendors on Old Main Street. At 1PM the Rotary Luncheon will take place at Westminster Baptist Church. At 430Pm you will want to see the Apple Festival parade that runs from First Baptist Church to First Citizens bank in downtown Westminster. But Friday's big event is the 18th Annual Apple Festival World Championship Rodeo, which is an IPRA sanctioned event! It starts at 8PM at Bibb Street Arena and adult tickets are $12 with children tickets only $5.

Saturday the 12th kicks off with the Classic Road Race. This is the 29th Annual Apple Festival Classic 5K Run and 1 Mile fun Run. It begins at 7AM at West-Oak Middle School. Proceeds will benefit the West-Oak High School and West-Oak Middle Wresting teams. To find more info about registration please visit Road Race Info.

The Arts & Crafts Show on Main Street will be going on from 10Am to 5PM and there will be live entertainment at the Apple Festival pavilion all day also.

Also at 10AM there will be the Classic Car Show and from 10AM to 1Pm there will be Children's activities on Historic Main Street, followed by clogging from 1PM to 5PM. And at 8PM the big rodeo will be taking place again.

I read this article today and almost fell out of my seat. It seems that the Oconee County Council this week approved entering into a partnership agreement with Westminster that will see a disc golf course build on about 18 acres adjacent to Chau Ram Park.

The new park would be the county’s third with the others being in Seneca and Walhalla. The Walhalla course even hosted the South Carolina State Junior Disc Golf Championship earlier in this year.

If you have never played disc golf, it is similar in concept to the normal golf but instead of a hole in the ground you are aiming for a basket suspended around a pole. Just as relaxing or stressful as the more popular form of golf.
