There is something special about roses that really appeal to me. Yes, they are challenging to grow, constantly augmenting the soil, spraying for black spot, mites and gawd only knows what else. Kinda reminds me of some folks that I know; can we say the words, "high maintenance"?

Maybe I go through all this rigmarole, because I like to mindlessly putter in the garden after an especially hard day; a mental escape from life in the world of real estate. My reward for all the TLC I bestow upon my precious? She does look pretty in pink, now doesn't she...

Okay, so this is not your typical Mom's Day post. But what the heck. It is Sundae and we're all entitled to chill and do what ever. Right? Well, okay, as long as we have Mom's permission.

As we all know, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was a Koi pond. Yesterday, I managed to put a huge dent in the project tho. Finished the garden path, built the raised flower beds, hooked up the recirculating pump, even managed to get some plants put in by the skimmer - all by dusk. I had to say I was one pooped pup by nightfall.

Today is Mothers Day. I plan to do what every mother plans to do - Chill!!!

Every year, I tend to the many water plants in my koi and bog ponds. I carefully prune back dead growth, fertilize and divide/re-pot overcrowded containers. Of all the plants in my ponds, my favorites are the crown jewels of the pond - water lilies.  Not only are these crown shaped flowers beautiful to look at, but the broad green leaves also serve in aiding and maintaining the ponds ecosystem.

Last year, the larger koi devastated my lilies. Feeding on the tender new leaves and roots, the lilies almost died. I like my fish, as I have had many of them for several years now, but I like my water lilies even more.

The "Lily Pond" as I prefer to call it, is under construction and is completed to where I can start introducing the plants. Hopefully, the new containers will arrive this week and I can have all of them in the pond by this weekend. The weather is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous!

Adorned like a ballerina in her silk dress with delicate underlayers of crinoline, the Quanson Cherry blooms in my front yard. Blushing pink against the backdrop of the early morning sky, she dances gracefully across the lawn, enchanted by the medley sung by the choir of birds nestled in her hair. The sun, peeking from behind the billowy curtains of the early morning sky applauds her performance.
