About Grainger County, TN

Sarting in December I get ready to hike and enjoy the Clinch Mt. range. These beautiful unspoiled and less traveled peaks run through Grainger County. I particularly enjoy the solitude of roaming these mountains as I never see anyone. Clinch Mt. is a wild mountain range that starts at Signal Point in Blaine,TN and goes into Virginia. Signal Point was a key position in the war between the states as Knoxville can be seen from from this vista. These hikes also give me a different perspective of my listings in relation to their surroundings. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park has many trails and much easier access but I will stick with the wild game paths of my Clinch Mountains.

Up the road about 30 miles east of Knoxville, Tenenssee lies Grainger County, home of some of the most famous tomatoes in the south. Tomatoes are Grainger Counties' largest cash crop producing millions of dollars in revenue yearly.

The Grainger County folks celebrate their famous crops on the last weekend in July each year with the Grainger County Tomato Festival

Lots of arts, crafts, music, food, exhibits, and displays at the Festival but tomatoes are the star of the show.

Going to the Tomato Festival has become an annual tradition at the Lee household so Saturday my lovely bride and I went to enjoy ourselves once again.

This is selling real estate Tennessee country style. No computers, no Blackberries (except the kind you spread on a biscuit), no fancy stuff, just a "come on in and sit a spell" neighbor.

Tomatoes of all sizes, shapes, and colors were on display at every turn. They are what this festival is all about.

This delighful lady is a regular at the fair and was exhibiting her beautiful, hand stitched quilts. I have a photo of her working on this quilt from last year. She will quickly tell you they're not for sale, just to look at and admire.

Beautiful Cherokee Lake is set in the Foothills of the Clinch Mountains of TN. Cherokee Lake is only 30 minutes away from Knoxville and is located In the cities of Morristown, Jefferson City, Rutledge, Bean Station, Mooresburg as well as other small communities. All of these subdivisions are great options in helping you find that perfect home site or lake home. There are also other locations that are available that offer additional privacy, lakefront access and views without being inside a subdivision but are yet still very convenient to shopping and dining.
