Learning about where I Live

Buffy Creekmore E-Pro Broker in Lexington Tennessee: Real Estate Agent in Lexington, TN

Henderson Cty Chamber

Since I am a Realtor in Henderson County, TN I am all over the county looking at and showing property, we are an active family who are involved in many activities which take us all around the county. Since we get busy with what is in our immediate circle of life it's easy to forget how much goes on in our communities and what goes into a county and I wanted to know more about what makes Henderson County, Tennessee tick so I applied to participate in the Henderson County Leadership Program supported through the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce.

I have since been selected to participate in the Henderson County Leadership Program. This program was implemented in 1996 as a part of the Governor's Three Star Community Award Initiative. I have not been involved in anything like this until now and I am thrilled to be in the 2009 Leadership Class with eight others.

Our activities include Project COPE, State Government Day in Nashville, Law Enforcement Day, Agricultural Day, History Day, Health Care Day, Economic Development Day, Education Day and Industrial Day. Essentially we will meet once a month ending the year with a better understanding the opportunities and concerns within our community. I am looking forward to knowing more about the people and community I live in.

Having this opportunity is just one more reason to the long list of why I love living in Henderson County, Tennessee.

Looking for a great place to live??? I'll be happy to share Henderson County with you-

Manners Matter!

March was always Manners Month in the preschool class that I taught before becoming a Real Estate Professional. I have always felt that good manners are vital for excelling in life and teaching them in preschool was a natural. Young minds are like sponges and so receptive to being taught ideas like manners. What I noticed is that parents are often so busy that they tend to just let manners education at home go. The same can be said for many adults....they just let good manners go by the wayside.

"Magic Words" such as Yes Ma'am, No Sir, Excuse me, Please, Thank You, You're Welcome help us get what we want. It's just that simple. Preschoolers get that while many adults do not. " EXCUSE ME SIR Can you PLEASE? THANK YOU MA'AM YOU'RE WELCOME" All these words are free, they don't cost you a thing to use. I try use mine alot...at drive thru's, in stores, with customers, on the phone, with coworkers. I encourage and quite frankly expect my practically grown children to use them as well. As a matter of fact I got a text message today that said "Yes ma'am".

At preschool we practiced table manners, learning how to meet and greet in a mannerly fashion (including that all important handshake), how to open doors for others and how to accept a compliment. All great examples of Manners that Matter! Now I know if a bunch of 4 year olds can do these certainly all of us grown ups can.

So here's a challenge...Spend the rest of March Manners Month practicing your rusty manners!

Good Luck!

Leadership Henderson County Update

Leadership Henderson County 2009 traveled to Camp Mack Morris in Camden on Friday Feb. 27th,

where the group participated in Project COPE, a program of the West TN

Area Council Boy Scouts of America. Project C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal

Experience) is comprised of a series of outdoor challenges, beginning with

basic group initiative games and progressing to more complicated low-course and

high-course activities. Camp Director Shane Cooley led participants through a

variety of challenges that involved climbing, swinging, balancing, jumping as well

as critical thinking. It gave the group a chance to work on team building activities

and develop skills that focus on communication, trust, problem solving, leadership,

decision-making, self-esteem and teamwork. It was a wonderful experience that WAS challenging but

very worth the aches and pains that I endured the following weekend.

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.....S.T.R.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some lives!

During a BBQ, Ingrid stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) . She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the BBQ.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had someone known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be alive today.

PLEASE - It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally.

He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

PLEASE remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify and the stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage.

A bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

- S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

- T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE COHERENT SENTENCE (i.e. It is sunny out today)

- R *Ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS..

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher..

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is another indication of a stroke.

Waiting for Spring to List Your Home....DON'T!

Here's why!

Inventory~ How many other sellers will have that same strategy? So come March, April & May, there will be even more competition. SO by listing NOW you avoid that!

Motivated Buyers~ Spring may bring out the shoppers but usually people who are shopping in the winter months are more serious and motivated AND more likely to BUY your home.

Mortgage Rates~ Rates are at 3 year lows and by listing now can take advantage of those who are buying before the rates begin to climb back up.

Buyer Confidence~ People are getting tired of the ‘wait & see' and their confidence in the market is beginning to shift which is increasing buyer traffic. The $7500 first time homebuyer tax credit expires in the spring of 2009 and there are many who are taking advantage of this, waiting until March or April to list and this opportunity just might pass you as a seller by.

Accomplishing your Goals Now ~Wouldn't you rather have your home sold by March or April? By listing now you are giving yourself the opportunity to complete your goals sooner rather than later.

Housing prices in rural America have outperformed those in the cities for past two years and are still relatively stable, according to economist Chad Wilkerson at the Federal Reserve Bank. SO while the national news media has been reporting about the housing doom & gloom they have largely ignored the positive , stable markets in rural American, including Henderson County, TN.

There are a couple of reasons why this is true. One factor is that rural housing prices didn't skyrocket in the ‘boom years' as it did in metro areas. In addition, Wilkerson reports that ‘better credit underwriting standards by rural lenders' may have kept the housing bubble from inflating as fast as other areas. Thus the Henderson County market is avoiding the price correction that is currently under way in many other areas.

Trends lead the Fed economists to conclude that rural home values are unlikely to rise appreciably either but not losing is a big gain in today's market.

With more and more people looking to relocate into the rural markets and looking for the recreation amenities that are abundant in Henderson County it's a great time to buy and sell!
