Tennessee actually has all 4 seasons. We have winter several good snows. Nothing huge several inches that you can build a good snowman with. The kids get out of school and a day or two later is all gone. Ah fall time in Tennessee is breath taking! The leaves on the trees are so beautiful and amazing! The air is crisp and you can sometimes smell a fire that someone is cooking hot dogs or smores on! Summer is awesome! We swim and fish and play at the parks. It is warm and sunny but not way too hot like a lot of places. Spring time is just awesome! The trees have buds on them. The flowers are sticking their heads up out of the rich soil. It is just starting to get warm and the nights and mornings are still a little cool. People are out walking dogs, washing cars, and taking kids to park. It here!!!! Spring Time! In spring my phone starts to ring with people who are out driving and see property for sale. Ah, I love the smell or spring. Monterey is such a charming town. I love the way that people know each other and talk to each other in town. If you go in the local restaurant you are sure to see friends. Even if you do not know them you will before you leave! The schools are great and very safe. I can walk my dog down the road and know I am safe. I don't have to worry about my teenagers when they leave my house because I know they are safe. I can play outside with my daughter and see friends and neighbors go by and wave and honk. Monterey is a great little town with huge character! Come for a visit today!

March 2009
Mar 1 - Mar 13 Joan Derryberry Art Gallery Exhibit: Aaron Lee Benson - Ceramic Sculpture
1st Floor Roaden University Center on TTU Campus
February 17, 4:30pm Reception/Gallery talk
Mr. Benson has a BFA, BS in Art Education and MFA in Sculpture/Ceramics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is currently the Chairman and Professor Fine Arts in Sculpture and Ceramics at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He has shown his work throughout the south and northeast including Vanderbilt's Sarratt Gallery and Duke University's Louise Jones Brown Gallery. Benson has received several public commissions including work for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He mainly works in clay producing large-scale architectural forms as well as figurative, narrative monoliths. In his work he is attempting to combine the figure with architecture and narrative. He works now mainly in highly textured, organic sense of form that finds its origins in nature. Mr. Benson has been inspired by his many hiking trips to Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. He has also backpacked in places around the world, the Alps in Europe being one of those trips. His works have taken on a strong natural quality that echoes many of these landscapes.
