About Gatlinburg's Chalet Village

On Ski Mountain Road, about halfway up at the intersection of Skim Mountain and Wiley Oakley (and incidentally right across the street from my office!) is the Chalet Village Market-- this is one of the few places to grab a sandwich, pizza, and various libations before heading up to your cabin! Our staff at Century-21 are great fans of the subs!!

Chalet Village is one of the very first resort areas in the Gatlinburg area, with some oroginal cabins dating to the 1950's! This community, snuggled into the mountains with the National Park on 3 sides, boasts large lots with mature trees and some of the premier views in the area-- probably 'cause them that got there first got first pick! Over the years the community has matured into a mix of rental cabins, second homes and permanent residences.

There is a Home Owners Association, and membership includes use of 2 Chalet Village Homeowner's Association Club Houses and swimming pools-- a great perk for summer guests. The original Village has some of the Bavarian Chalet style of cabins complete with gingerbread trim. These cabins can be found on the streets near the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort at the top of Ski Mountain, such as St. Moritz, Luzerne, and S. Baden. This part of Chalet Village can be accessed by going to light #10 in Gatlinburg (just before the Park entrance) and turning right onto Ski Mountain Road. Take this road up Ski Mountain all the way to the top and the Ski slopes!

In the 1980's the community expanded into Chalet Village North, greatly increasing the size of the neighborhood. Chalet Village and Chalet Village North are connected by Wiley Oakely Drive which runds across the mountain. To access Chalet Village North, take the "spur" from Pigeon Forge towards Gatlinburg. When you get to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center, turn up Wiley Oakley drive and you are there!

Well, as we Tennesseans start every sentence. I just had the most trying experience with one of the banks we are "lending" money to and a bank that must just be plain dumb about business.
I had not one, not two, but three contracts on one single vacation home in Gatlinburg with unbelievable views of the great Smoky Mountains and views of downtown Gatlinburg.
This was a short sale and I wrote one of these in January and one in February and received one in February from another agent. The first two buyers backed out from the fact that these two banks could not give me an answer in two months. Then after they backed out I got another contract on this vacation cabin and still the banks can't give me an answer. Now I have this buyer backing out.
What in the world is wrong with this picture. This property is going into foreclosure because the right hand does not know what the left hand does and everyone loses.
Suntrust who holds the 2nd and will get nothing when Chase forecloses, was holding out for more money. Someone besides me must think they have lost their minds.
I am glad that I live in a beautiful vacation area like the Great Smoky Mountains where dealing with this type of sale is not very often but I feel great admiration for those agents that have to deal with this type of sale daily.
My hat is off to you and when you have time come on up or down which ever it is and enjoy the lights of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge or just take in the breathless views we have in our glorious mountains.
