  1. Tennessee women's softball. The lady Vols won both sides of a double header again Georgia last week. Come to the game and see if they can do the same again Alabama. Friday, May 1st, 6 pm, and Saturday May 2nd at 3:00 pm. Sherri Parker Lee Stadium is a first class softball stadium on campus with outstanding facilities.
  2. Rick Recht, a Jewish rock singer (I told you there was something for everyone. ;-)) in concert Saturday at the Arnstein Jewish Community Center. Saturday, May 2nd at 8:00 pm.
  3. Sundown in the City continues with this week's featured artists Big Head Todd and the Monsters, an acoustic (no electic apliifiers, give your ears a rest) rock bank well known in college towns all over. Opening act is Joan Jones. Party starts at 6:00 pm, Market Square, price, FREE, one of my favorites.
  4. Billed as an "all ages" show at the Valarium (a new age nightclub), "As I Lay Dying" a Christian influenced Metal Cone Band with lead off act "God Forbid" a pioneering 'nu-metal' band. 7:00 pm Monday, May 4th. I have no clue what this is all about but it could be interesting.
  5. Movietime with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Storyline: Wolverine who lives a mutant life seeks revenge against a rival for killing his girlfriend. Opens Friday. I'll sure it will be well attended, just not by me. ;-)

Money saving tips for moms and moms to be

Having a baby these days is expansive and so is providing clothes and 'baby stuff'.

My youngest daughter Amanda, who lives in Memphis is a single mom with a 2 year old. Amanda has always been pretty thrifty but now that she has Cooper in her life, she's elevated 'thrifty' to an art form.

Using websites like BabyCheapskate.com and FreePeats.org she keeps Cooper outfitted in great style with prices ranging from 50% off to outright free.

For some reason ActiveRain is not cooperating with my attempts to embed a video so here's a link to my outside blog with 'the rest of the story'.

"Outside the box" ideas to make your Knoxville, Tennessee home sell

Jim Lee, Seacoast Realtor Portsmouth, NH, Jewel of the NH Seacoast: Real Estate Agent in Portsmouth, NH

So you have your Knoxville house on the market and you’re not getting any offers or you’re thinking of selling and you have concerns about the perceived state of the so called “national real estate market.

First of all relax, there is no “national real estate” market but rather a large number of local markets more dependant on local conditions, (i.e. jobs, local economy, employers, jobs creation, etc.) than the national economy.

The greater Knoxville, Tennessee area is one of those fortunate areas that is blessed with a diverse economy and all of those diverse sections are humming along pretty well right now and is projected to improve in 2008

Combine that with historically low interest rates and there’s no reason anyone that needs to sell (or buy) a house can’t do so.

In addtion to the traditional “fix it up”, “Price it right”, and “market it well” philosophies that are tried and true; a little “outside the box” thinking could give you that extra push you need to rise above competing Knoxville houses.

Here’s a few suggestions:

  • If you receive an offer and then make a counter offer to the buyer, consider lowering your asking price to your counter-offer price and make sure the buyers know it. That puts additional pressure on them to accept your offer if they truly want your house because they know you’re offering it to others at the same price you countered to them.
