I Got a Laugh from Zillow Today

Today I had an email in my inbox from Zillow. It read "Your Zestimate has increased 1.1%". I opened up the email and immediately started laughing out loud - yes, folks, I was lol-ing all over the place!
Zillow proclaimed to me that my house was now worth $190k.
Now, being a very realistic real estate agent, I know what the value of my home is worth.
I did not buy a beautiful house in a new neighborhood. I followed the rule of real estate and bought the "worst house on the best street I could afford".
So, during this horrible market, my home has actually increased in value, even though there are definitely times when I wish I was in a more aesthetically pleasing house.
But I digress. Let me just state that the house across the street, albeit with more square footage and a more updated kitchen, just sold for $535k. And another one down the street just sold for $450k. These two homes are in the same block that I live in.
Zillow - thanks for the laugh, but "I DON'T THINK SO".

Oak Hill to Provide Recycling Pick-Up

It has finally happened! Oak Hill has partnered with Earth Savers to pick up trash and recycling.
Having moved from Green Hills to Oak Hill, I was shocked to learn that there was no option for recycling in Oak Hill. In Green Hills, Metro had provided as many containers as someone wanted in order to be able to recycle. They would not recycle glass, but everything else was a go.
For the past four years since I moved into Oak Hill, I have been hauling my recycling (which is a substantial amount as I barely throw anything into the garbage can) over to the area next to Hillsboro High School. It has been a chore, but one that I have done faithfully since I believe in the benefits of recycling.
I am thrilled to know that Oak Hill will not only provide the recycling free of charge to Oak Hill residents (I know that Earth Savers charges the residents of Berry Hill $35/month for the same service), but they will also collect glass recyclables AND will come to your back door to do so!
As I understand it, this change will take place March 1, 2011, with Earth Savers bringing you a 32-gallon trash can to collect the recycling and continuing to pick up the trash and the recycling twice each week on the same day that you are used to.
Way to go Oak Hill Commissioners for making this a priority!

Nashville Area Oak Hill Home Sales: September and October 2010 Market Report
I take a special interest in the Oak Hill Home Sales because I grew up in Oak Hill and now reside in Oak Hill. Fall is one of the most beautiful times in Oak Hill - the leaves are turning colors on the trees and the cooler temperatures make it so pleasant to get out there and enjoy what Oak Hill offers - go for a hike at Radnor Lake - it's back up and running again after the flooding damage!
Also, plan on attending the Oak Hill Harvest Festival, which will be held at the Glen Leven Farm (4000 Franklin Pike) on October 17, 2010 from 3-6 p.m.

The sad news in Oak Hill right now is that there are currently (8/17/2010) 46 homes for sale and only ONE of them has a contract on it - and that one is a short sale!
