When is a door not a door?

When it's ajar.

That little pun confused me for the longest time when I was a kid, partly as I had no idea that a word "ajar" existed. The same was true when I first came to the US and didn't understand the meaning of the word "condo", despite owning one in London. I called it a "flat with a share of the leasehold".

So developments like Independence may seem confusing at first. The homes are sold as condos, but to all intents and purposes are single family detached houses, and purchasers buy the land underneath their homes, and all of the structure. Yet the homes are in a condo regime, which means they also each own a portion of the common interests. The land has not been formally subdivided, and each homeowner has a portion of it.

The Scott Felder Homes have a Craftsman feel to them on the exterior and are deceptively large inside, ranging from around 1200-2200 sqft. They have high ceilings and all the modern conveniences you'd expect in a new home, and they're pretty convenient to downtown - Independence is located just South of Stassney on the west side of Manchaca. Priced in the $200s they have appealed to a couple of my buyer clients who were going to buy a home at Mueller last year. Let me know if you want to check them out!
