Run With The Heroes is a race designed to bring together first responders with communities, to honor fallen heroes in emergency response jobs. The Austin Police Department teams with The Special Olympics with the proceeds going to The Special Olympics.

Run With The Heroes takes place on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 8 am at Southpark Meadows.

Recently, in South Austin, I went on a listing appointment with a homeowner who was, how do I say it? Completely dejected. I was to potentially be her third Realtor. Her home had been on the market for nearly a year and she was starting to think that her home was "unsellable."

This feeling was due in part to her previous Realtor, who I learned at the meeting, had just given her a statute of St. Joseph's - the patron saint of selling homes - to bury in her front yard. When she told me this at the listing appointment - I was in shock. I think my mouth fell open and I'm sure I had a dumbfounded look on my face. Talk about passing the buck. The other Realtor was telling the seller that her home was unsellable because of forces beyond anyone's control. I explained to her that The Papasan Team had other ways of getting homes sold that didn't involve burying anything anywhere.

Thankfully, she hired me and we got her home sold in less than 3 weeks. So, I guess the statue of St. Joseph's worked - just not in the way the previous Realtor intended.

The two finalist will square off at the Gibson Showroom 3601 S. Congress beginning at 6pm Feb. 23rd. Dead Swagger and Midnight Riot the finalist will each get a 15 minute set before 3 music profession Judges. A packed house is exptected to watch these bands perform.

Dead Swagger is a 3 peice band featuring Samuel Grey on vocals. Payton White on keys and Mark Spinks on drums. Their music has an old school jazz club feel. Samuel has a deep and rich voice that would remind you of Frank Sinatra. The bands music however is fresh and interesting.

Midnight Riot, has an alternative rock feel. The band features Amand Kirkpatrick on Vocals, Lead Guitarists Kyle Samuel and Austin Canary. Zak Kirkpatrick on Drums and Dylan Samuel on bass. Their music rocks and features a complexity not expected in a group this young. In other words the music is not just noise it is purposfully designed.
