A recent Austin icon meets what is perhaps the oldest Austin icon. P Terry Burger Stand has opened its fourth location, on venerable South Congress Avenue. Patrick Terry and his wife opened the drive thru eatery on South Lamar and Barton Springs just five years ago. Of course it was an instant hit, reminding some of Inn and Out Burger, and many of us of, a good, old fashioned; natural hamburger. P Terrys has a basic menu, that includes healthy choices such as the chicken burger, and what others regard as the best veggie burger in Austin.
Additional P Terrys locations were added on North Lamar and 32nd Street, and William Cannon and Mopac. The lastest location is in the heart of South Austin, attracting a customer base, who no longer have to drive out of their way for their favorite burger and fresh cut fries, cooked in 100% canola oil.

There are some things that are pure Austin. The Capitol, Barton Springs, Mount Bonnell, the list goes on. South Congress is arguably at the top of that list. From the bats that live under the Congress Avenue Bridge, to The Continental Club, to the long time restaurants.
First Thursdays provide a great opportunity to enjoy the best of Congress Avenue and Soco. This Thursday, September 2, the tradition continues. Stores typically stay open to at least 10pm, with some offering sales for the evening. Several of the restaurants offer drink and food specials, with artists and musicians on hand for entertainment.

Funky and Fun on South Congress Ave. in Austin Texas Equals SoCo
If visiting Austin is in your near future or you live here and have been hiding under a rock: you need to explore South Congress in the hip and vibrant neighborhood of SoCo!
Our assistant, Carol, saw Jaynie "The Pie Queen" from the South Austin Trailers on one of the local TV channels and wanted us to check her "Cutie Pie Wagon" out! Her claim to fame is she has been in Southern Living and on the Martha Stewart show! She is also a cancer survivor (ovarian and thyroid) and has a website: www.cutiepiewagon.com. Carol checked her out over the weekend and got one of her yummy cherry pies!
I'm not kidding when I'm referring to the South Austin Trailers as they line the street and sell all kinds of aromatic foods. There are plenty of great restaurants, hotels and unique places to shop for bargains or that "Rare Find!" This eclectic neighborhood definitely falls under the guise of our favorite slogan "Keep Austin Weird!!" Hey, you might even see "Dog the Bounty Hunter" roaming the streets!
Check out these sites to give you a true picture of our beloved SoCo Community:
* Austin City Guide for SoCo Shopping District
In case you want to find the infamous SoCo area you must know the boundaries! They run just south of Town Lake and to Oltorf in the south, then west to South First and along the eastern edge of Congress Avenue.
Austin is a fantastic city to visit and it's an even better place to LIVE!
Our economy is thriving: our city is hip and bustling with activities, arts, concerts, plays, dining and plenty of shopping. In Austin we have affordable housing and we're 3 hours to Dallas or Houston; 1 hour to San Antonio; 30 minutes to Lake Travis and 5 hours to the coast.
Visit Austin, after all we are the Live Music Capital of the World!

Nope it is not Halloween - it is Easter weekend but dress up your furry friend and bring them out for an afternoon of fun.
I for one love a holiday - if it involves dressing up, even if it is my dog I am in, no question. Pet owners can register ANY pet at Jo's on South Congress (South Congress & Annie) from 10am - noon entry fee is $15.00 - all proceeds benefit Austin Pets Alive!
Prizes include a free night stay at the Hotel San Jose, Jo's Gift Cards, trophies and more. There will also be an on-site raffle for a pet portrait session with Nicole Mlakar Livingston (www.nicolemlakarphotography.com).
If you cannot muster up an animal to participate, no worries spectators are welcome as well. There will be kid's activities, dogs up for adoption, live music and more!
Good luck - I'd love to see pictures of your pet dressed to the nines, the more creative and extravagant that better! One more time I will remind you all proceeds benefit a great non-profit, Austin Pets Alive. We are a city of pet lover and we want to keep them alive!

Rumor is it is supposed to be a rainy day with a cold front coming in, Good Luck SXSWers - bring a jacket! That ex's any cool outdoor dining off my list for today, however, I think Austinites and out of towners alike will appreciate this little Austin jewel.
South Austin, South Congress looking for an fun for the whole family stop this Saturday, Monkey See Money Do is it, it's a kid and an adult toy (not in an X rated way) store all in one.
Perfect place to go for wacky gifts, funky Austin gifts or just gifts period! Think very Urban Outfitters but with that Austin twist that we are all so fond of and enjoy. It is also one of those places that you just find yourself getting lost in, everything is so weird - that stuff you always think, "what is this?"
For those that do not have any idea what to expect - toys, novelty items, stationary, books - it is basically an Austin Gift Shop / Toy Shop / 1950s Comic Store (I wasn't alive than but I imagine they were something like this!)
Fits perfectly into our Austin Mata, Keep Austin Weird alright.
What more can I say, welcome to Austin, Texas. Good time to be had by all, guaranteed.

1712 South Congress Avenue
