Swimming is a sport started at an early age in Austin.  A role model of the top Long Horn Swim Team doesn't hurt to get a youngster interested.

There are many summer league programs to join which gets kids up and active racing to swim practice during the week (yes, that means rolling out of bed early during summer vacation) and competing with their team on weekends at swim meets.  It is a family affair as it takes the effort of parents to organize age groups, sell food at the concession stands, time the races and so much more.

My youngest granddaughter, Maggie (9) swims for the Balcones Country Club team called the "Sharks!"  Look at the posters they have made together which are hung up on the fence around the pool during their meets.  Saturday, I came early to watch her swim on her relay!

Swimming is a wonderful sport; its great exercise, encourages team building and individual skills and helps develop discipline.  Can't think of a better way to persuade kids to get off that couch!

The Sharks favorite slogan is "Eat My Bubbles"  We could all learn something from that one!
