Camp Wood, Texas is located between Fm Rd 337 and State HWY 55 located along the Nueces River. Located in the Balcones Escarpment, at the southern edge of the Edwards Plateau in Edwards county and real county. The name Camp Wood came from the military out post (1857-61). the fort protected the settlers from Lipan Apaches who inhabited the region. In 1920 Camp Wood became the northern terminus of the Uvalde and Northern Railroad, and the townsite was formally laid out.
