Utopia World Cuisine & Lounge; Corpus Christi restaurant and Southside hotspot!

Tiffany Burke: Real Estate Agent in Corpus Christi, TX

Utopia World Cuisine located at 5638 Saratoga Blvd,Ste 100 is one of my personal favorites of the newer shopping and dining popping up around the new and improved Corpus Christi south side.

They offer great lunch specials and have an array of dinners to chose from; with offerings ranging from mouth watering steak and potatoes to the most artistic of sushi and salads, how can you go wrong? There's sure to be an entree to please everyone, from the easy to please simple taste to the most complex of palates.

Okay, enough with the lunch and dinner and on to the greatest happy hour in town! Not only does it start an entire hour earlier than most places in town but they offer a different drink special every day of the week plus half-price appetizers and pizza to go along with those drinks.

Yes; that's right I said, half price!

On this particular Thursday evening that I visited; my partner in crime was my daughter, Karlyn Burke. AaWW! is the word that I use to describe the sensation, you know that sigh of relief you let out when you are leaving your stressful day of work and the world outside behind as you walk in to take your seat. The colorful bistro style bar tables with stools line the curved walls, with the more formal table and chairs filling the median of the big dining room and surrounded by the open air cooking station. The sushi chef is in the front of the dining area creating their works of art in full view of anyone interested enough to watch. The stained concrete floors are an addition to the stainless steel and clean lines yet the bright colors and circular accents add a touch of retro feel that seems more modern and unique compared to other hang outs in town. As we get seated we are quickly greeted by our waitress and offered menus and have our drink orders taken; Karlyn orders a coke and I order a red wine ($3.00 happy hour special) worth every cent. The sound of the music can be heard over little chuckles and a giggle here and there; everyone seems to have a smile on their face, sharing a joke or a subtle flirt over their glasses of wine or cocktails.

Although there are so many wonderful things on the menu to choose from, Karlyn and I have our personal favorites that we cannot help but order at almost every visit. This is one of them, the hot crab dip with the garlic herb chips. The dip is spicy but still enjoyable and the chips are a perfect compliment, freshly cooked to a light brown crisp, yet still soft enough to soak up the wonderful dip. If you look they are so fresh you can actually even see the specs of green herbs. Believe it or not, they are even better than they look.

Also from 5:00 - 10:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the sushi is half price. I know it's unbelievable but it's true. There are many varieties to chose from but we usually order the Gulf roll and the ocean roll. YUM! They offer more original veg. rolls, spicy tuna rolls, tuna and salmon rolls, and even the most un-ordinary redneck roll. LOL. The redneck roll is actually made with beef, I cannot speak for this one because I haven't been brave enough to try it yet. I am sure it must be tasty, I have been told that it is a favorite for some diners.

This is Nicole, (OOH LA LA) one of the many very attractive waitresses at Utopia, and almost as pretty as the food. ( Just kidding Nicole).

No matter what your taste, I'm certain you will find something to suit your taste at Utopia. I will post their menu at the bottom of this page. Please join me here and lets have a relaxing good time!

Kind regards,

Tiffany Burke

Corpus Christi road constuction....Wooldridge constuction and now Holly?

Tiffany Burke: Real Estate Agent in Corpus Christi, TX

Okay, If you travel through south side Corpus Christi daily then I'm sure you have noticed the past several months of construction on Wooldridge Road from Rodd field to Staples. I have to agree it has been a long and inconvenient process but fortunately it seems to be coming to an end. I was actually reaping the benefits of the newly wide and nicely paved short cut on the way home the other day after work and decided it was definatly worth the wait. I am sure all of the neighborhoods and restaurants along Wooldridge is celebrating on it's completion. Don't get me wrong, I was probably the person grumbling the loudest while the construction was in progress but the happiest with the completed results.

Then on the way to an appointment yesterday out into the new Terra Mar subd. I noticed they have loose gravel now on Holly, from Rodd-field through a six mile stretch of highway and, there went the grumbling again! I guess we will just have to try to smile and deal with it as we are progressing to make our south side more pleasant and easily accessible. After all; the South-side is growing by leaps and bounds and if we do not make an attempt to keep up with the growth now, we will certainly be in big trouble later down the bumpy, narrow, and insufficient "ROADs".

Grass high sellers and sky high grass do not sell homes...

Tiffany Burke: Real Estate Agent in Corpus Christi, TX

I was out showing homes yesterday with a client, we pulled up to the first home we had an appointment to show and get out of the car....

The grass was literally shoulder high; This was more than one month of growth but, if that wasn't bad enough apparently the owners of the home were more than likely higher than the grass in the front yard.

We walk up to the front door and the smell of freshly smoked pot hit us almost as hard as the blaring AC/DC song screaming from the front window which turned out to be the master bedroom.

rockers trying to sale sale a home

The home was in total chaos. It was sad b/c it look as if two small children lived in the home (by the looks of mattresses thrown on the floor in the princess pink and cowboy blue small bedrooms) The bathroom was disgusting (as if we could smell anything over the marijuana) there were tons of dirty clothes and the tub was black with mildew. We did not even make an attempt to stay long enough to see the kitchen before running for the exit.

I have never been one to tell other people how to live their lives but I will give a few pointers in this particular situation I will make an exception...

Home seller's...

Please do not smoke pot and then schedule an appointment to have your home shown thinking that floral air spray will cover up that smell.

Try to keep the grass cut at least once a month!

If you are not going to make an attempt to stage, do any kind of cosmetic repairs then at least have the bathrooms clean and throw the dirty cloths under the bed or in a closet.

I am not sure what their Realtor thinks of this situation or even if they are aware of it. I was thinking of calling her but couldn't decide it was really my business or not. I would certainly like to know if I had a listing like this. I feel ashamed for her b/c the first thing my client said was "it seems like their Realtor would have given them better advice than to leave the home like this". I'm sure she probably just isn't aware of the situation. I don't know about the rest of you but I would absolutly reject a listing like that.
