My aunt for the first time in all of her entire life had a room for herself. She was excited to have a “ladies” room in her family of all men.
She had told me that she was happy that she had made half of the enclosed sun room into a sewing room for herself. Today she was busy sewing a new dress that she wanted to wear to an upcoming picnic.
Little Anthony, four years old, had gone into the den to get some more toys to play with. He had been really quite and my aunt was about to get up and go see where he was, when he appeared at the doorway.
“Mommy, there is a man in the hallway that wants to talk to you.” He said in his little voice. Startled, she said, “A man is in the house?” Anthony replied, “Yes and he wants to talk to you.”
She told me that she had not heard anyone knocking at the front door at all. She was puzzled that someone would even come in to see if she was home. She thought maybe it was a distant relative who lived across the street. No one else would dare come into the home.
Luling is a very small town and people leave their doors unlocked all the time. Everyone respects everyone else and home invasion is not even a thought about crime in this town.
She walked out into the large hallway there was no one there. She went to the open front door, and there was no one on the front porch. In the kitchen, no one was there either.
“Anthony, where is the man?” She asked him. He replied, “He was in the hall.”
And so became the ritual... when she worked in the sun room a man would come to Anthony and ask him to go get his mommy to come into the hall to "talk". Something did not want her in that room.

Have you driven through a ghost town lately? One that was once a vibrant community and is now the shell of it's former self?
Today's photo is one of my absolute favorites that Alison took this spring. We were in Lockhart, Texas, home of Black's BBQ, shootin' the town.
Lockhart, fotunately, is NOT a ghost town - it's actually quite a nice one, and the 100+ year old buildings on the town square house popular local businesses and have an air of weathered elegance to them.
One building on the corner, however, with fantastic old architecture caught her eye. Three stories tall, with arched windows, it anchored the corner with stately calm. The bottom floor, however, was empty, with a smattering of pieces of left-over furniture, moving boxes and debris.
As she was seting up her shot, she spied a truck barreling down the street, much too fast for a small downtown.
With but a few second to focus and snap, this is what came home on the camera.

In my opinion the best place to get an awesome beef sausage link is at the Luling City Market located in Luling Texas. This very old building is located at 633 East Davis Street, Luling, TX. Their phone number is (830) 875-9019 in case you get lost on the way there! The hours of operation are Open Mon-Sat 7am-6pm.
Not only do they have good sliced brisket but they sell secret BBQ sauce that I buy by the gallon. It is just that good.
Luling is located in the heart of Texas at the crossroads of US 90 & 183, Texas 80 & 86, and Interstate 10. Less than an hour from San Antonio and Austin, Luling and is in Caldwell County on the San Marcos River.
My grandfather use to work there when I was a very little girl. I have very fond memories of the place. I was sorry to hear about the old wood meat chopping block that was recently replace by a stainless steel table due to health codes. But I remember standing there not much taller than the block itself.
Below I will let you feast your eyes to entice you to go there one day for lunch!
Matt you Rock Star You are close enough to go their at least once a week!
So if you or anyone you know is looking for a home to rent or a home to buy please give them my name Sussie Sutton and phone number 713-822-1655. I AM YOUR REALTOR® for the Pearland, Alvin, Friendswood area here in the great state of Texas!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
FOR THE UPCOMING
PLUM CREEK CDE
WHO: ANYONE INTERESTED IN HAVING A WONDERFUL DAY OR WEEKEND OUTSIDE WITH HORSES AND CARRIAGES
WHAT: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DRESSAGE, CONES AND MARATHON
WHEN: APRIL 17TH-18TH, 2010 (VOLUNTEER FOR ONE DAY OR BOTH!)
WHERE: AGARITA RANCH IN LOCKHART, TX www.pccss.org
WHY: IT TAKES A "VILLAGE" OF VOLUNTEERS TO PUT ON THIS EVENT
Plum Creek CDE is again looking for volunteers to help us put on this event next month. If you haven't been able to get your equine ready for the event, then consider volunteering. Or, if you're not a CDE competitor but enjoy horses, then consider volunteering. Once again, all volunteers will be fed lunch the days they volunteer and receive an event hat. Plum Creek will also hold a VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY on Saturday, May 8th. This has always been a fun day when volunteers get to bring their own equines out to Agarita and enjoy the trails and arena.
Please contact Lisa Cox via email at taipanstation@peoplepc.com or by phone (512)923-8674 if you're interested in volunteering. And please feel free to pass this on to any of your friends. You don't have to be a horse person to volunteer. Instructions are always given before each of the events start. Thanks in advance from the Plum Creek CDE and all it's competitors for your help in putting on this event.
