These train pictures were taken at Flatonia Texas near a pavillion where some of the rail fans gather twice a year to take pictures of trains for the day. This 1915 up train came through at 9:18am.
This freight train came through the big X (where two train tracks cross at 90 degree angles to form a big X) area at 10:12am.
This 9434 up train came through at 10:13am. The weather couldn't have been any better, sunny and cool in the morning. A good time was had by all.
There was a lull in the trains until 4:22pm, when up train 5552 came through.
I love the color scheme on this picture with the bright orange caboose, the yellow engine and the tan tower. This train came through at 4:26pm.
This was the last train though at 6:18pm
Another view of up train 4984. The yellow train looks orange as the sun sets.

This 4th of July we went to our friends home in Round Rock TX to watch the parade from the front yard of their beautiful vintage home. The parade was wonderful with lots of colorful floats, bands on trailers, horses, and even a group of people riding their longhorns! It was the epitome of small town American with a pure Central Texas feel. What a perfect day. Of course there was tons of food including frito pie, hot dogs, chili and more cakes and cookies than someone with a sweet tooth could dream of! But my favorite dish was the Zucchini salad. It w had just the right sweet and tangy flavor mix but the key was the crisp veggies. I asked for the receipe and am going to share it with you all.
12 medum zucchini thinly sliced,
1 bell pepper (red, green orange or yellow ) finely chopped
3 stalks celery chopped
1 medum to large purple onion sliced thinly
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup vinegar
1tsp salt
Place zucchini, pepper and celery in bowl. Cover with boiling water for five minutes. Drain. Add onion slices. Bring vinegar, sugar, and salt to a boil then cool. Cover zucchini mixture with liquid then gently stir. Let cool in refrigerator for several hours or overnight. Use chopped parsley as garnish if desired before serving.
It was in the 100's on the 4th and this salad was as cool and tasty as all get out! Perfect for any outdoor get together or with your favorite grilled main course!
Enjoy!

The Experimental Aircraft Associationhas a local chapter in La-Grange in Central Texas that has a monthly "fly-in" and fund raising bar-b-que.
The funds raised from each of the bar-b-ques goes to the Young Eagles program which gives deserving young students and flying enthusiasts scholarships to continue their education.
Last month the weather was perfect and there were over 40 planes that flew in, many experimental, some historic, and some acrobatic planes as well. (Of course many locals know that if the weather is bad they can still drive over for a great meal and some socializing as rain or shine the bar-b- que goes on in the big hanger!)
It is great fun to watch the planes come in and to walk the line up when they are parked to see the planes up close and personal. Some times some of the pilots will "open a box" and do a few acrobatics which is always exciting to watch.
The bar-b-que is made in limited amounts but approx. 160 lunches were served last month. They try to accommodate all that come but of course it is first come first serve. For more info you can click on the highlighted words for links.
La Grange Fly- In Saturday, March 1, 2008 and there is a Waco Fly - In for a pancake breakfast the same day for the adventurous and hungry pilots!
