The outcome on fighting my property taxes was a VICTORY! I had to go before the formal board this week and took all applicable comparables. I was able to reduce my taxable value of my property by over $30K! My point is fight and be persistent when it comes to your TAXES! It will be well worth it.
If you need assistance, please contact me.
Thanks!
Vicki

Cordillera Ranch is 8600 acres of Hill Country beauty and the ultimate private setting. Whether you golf, play tennis, ride, flyfish or just want to escape to nature, you'll definately want to visit Cordillera Ranch on your home tour. It's not far down the road from the quaint antique shops and excellent fine dining in Boerne. Turn to the other direction and head for the city life of San Antonio. You'll probably want to stop and shop the fine stores in La Canterra, maybe drop the kids at Fiesta Texas and dad will certainly want to check out the Bass Pro Shop in the Rim.

Our family has gone "organic"! Don't get me wrong, we still enjoy a bowl of Haagen Daas occasionally, and the kids can't seem to give up hot dogs and the very occasional Happy Meal (which I loved when I was little too), but overall, we are trying to make better choices about what we put in our bodies. Caffeine and high fructose corn syrup are out, and healthy, organic choices are in.We began this change by buying items labeled "organic". After seeing just about everything in an "organic" version, and realizing how expensive this change was, I wondered if some items were more important to buy in an "organic" version than others. Here is a list I compiled, courtesy of data from Oprah.com and our own city newspaper, the Boerne Star.
Foods You Should Try to Buy in an Organic Version:
Milk
Eggs
Meat - beef and chicken
Rice - all colors
Grains - corn, wheat and oats
Processed Foods - chips, popcorn
Peanut Butter
Potatoes
Raisins
Green Beans
Cucumbers
Strawberries
Apples
Cherries
Grapes
Nectarines
Peaches
Pears
Raspberries
Bell peppers
Celery
Spinach
If you are wondering if there are any foods (especially fruits and veggies) that you could still get away with buying the non-organic version of, here is a list of those that are less likely to be affected by pesticides:
Bananas
Kiwi
Mangos
Papaya
Pineapples
Asparagus
Avocado
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Corn
Onions
Thankfully, there is a new organic food market in Boerne. Loves Natural Market has a large selection of natural and organic products, and lucky for me, it is right next door to the Keller Williams office on South Main Street in Boerne! Here is an article from the Boerne Star Online about this charming little store.
For more on friendly choices for our bodies and the Earth, stay tuned!

This EVERYTHING TEXAS #10 will recognize The Texas Hill Country Wine Trail schedule of events that will give you the opportunity to visit some historic areas, see some beautiful wildflowers and taste some Texas wines made right here in The Texas Hill Country in our Great State of Texas. I am familiar with the Sister Creek Winery & Vineyards so enjoy the history of Sisterdale. If you ever have the opportunity be sure to stop in at Sister Creek Winery. Each winery on the list has much history. Make this a full day outing.
SISTER CREEK - STOP IN FOR A WINE TASTING
Award Winning Texas Wines
Since 1988
Since 1988, Sister Creek Vineyards has been located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in Sisterdale, Texas (Pop. 25). Bordeaux and Burgundy wine making techniques are employed to produce our Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot wines. These traditional wines are aged in 60 gallon oak barrels for up to three years. In combination with our barrel aging, minimal filtration methods are incorporated so the wines will retain their fullest flavors. In addition to these wines an Italian style Muscat Canelli is also produced. The winery is located between the cypress lined East and West Sister Creeks in a restored 1885 cotton gin.
History: A Brief History of Sisterdale
The Second Oldest Town in the Beautiful Texas Hill Country
History of Sisterdale,TX
Sisterdale is located in a quite valley between the East and West Sister Creeks, just north of the Guadalupe River. Founded by Captain Nicholas Zink in 1847, just two short years after Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels settled the town of New Braunfels.
Sisterdale was soon populated with a group of German "free thinkers" who were disillusioned after the failed European Revolution of 1848. Upon arrival, the settlers soon chopped down most of the cypress trees that lined both Sister Creeks for furniture, cabinet making, and home construction...however, it was farming that consumed most of their time. These gentleman farmers thought they would be able to farm part of the day and spend the studying Latin, literature, poetry and music. Most had never farmed before moving to Sisterdale and the few that had quickly realized that the farming conditions varied greatly from their homeland. So, their idyllic vision of studying the arts and farming was soon dashed as the realities of frontier life settled in.
Sisterdale continued to grow and in 1850 Dr. Ernst Kapp and Dr. Rudolph Wipprecht settled here from Germany. Dr. Kapp established the Hydropathic Institute in Sisterdale, which promoted cures with mineral waters. The Comfort Museum displays a Hermann Lunkwitz lithograph illustrating the water curing process. Dr. Kapp later moved and became the first professor of languages at Texas A&M University.
Recently, a University of Chicago professor was researching his ancestors from the Sisterdale area and discovered a historical publication indicating that vineyards were planted in Sisterdale around the 1860's. Additional research indicated that the small limestone building adjacent to the winery was probably the site of the first permanent home in Sisterdale.
The 1885 cotton gin, which currently houses Sister Creek Vineyards, was in operation until 1927. A boll-weevil infestation in the mid-20's devasted the farmers and eventually forced the closing of the cotton gin.
The Sisterdale Valley Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975.

All the trails are self-guided driving tours to be enjoyed at your leisure. Some wineries charge to taste during non-ticketed events. Consult the individual websites for charges. NOTE: Dates of Trail Events vary from year to year so consult our website for exact dates and times. Tickets for events are limited and most events sell out. Trail Event participation does require a ticket (except for the Wine and Wildflower Trail), so register early! Of course, you may still visit and enjoy the wineries during the Trail Events without registering....sample the wines, tour the wineries as available, visit tasting rooms, sip wine on patios and discover the charm of the Texas Wine Country. |

Quite by accident I came across the website for Riven Rock Ranch Resort on the Boerne Chamber of Commerce website. The ranch resort is located near Boerne and Comfort in Kendall County. I was totally unaware of it's existence. This looks like a great place for locals to visit, especially for an Easter brunch/dinner. Maybe I can talk my husband into going. :-) It would also be a great place for tourists visiting San Antonio and the Hill Country.
