It has been a good week for articles in the Austin American-Statesman about local and regional history. This story was dated February 23 from AP, but it appeared in today's newspaper here:
James Gang visited central Texas town
Of course, the James Gang visited a lot of places, but it's interesting that they stopped in Rockdale, about an hour northeast of Austin, to see a former gangmember. It seems he had moved there and changed his name, trying to leave his outlaw past behind. The news report doesn't say whether the visit was welcomed, but he did apparently tell the owner of the local wagon yard that Frank and Jesse and their cohorts were friends of his.

With paved road in front, ruraviewsl water, electric at the paved road that fronts the property, and a private gravel road on the other side that's a no outlet road, this is an ideal place to build for privacy and convenience only five miles from Cameron.

This is a viable poultry operation which raises poults (turkeys) to about 5.5 weeks of age, in 2 houses that are 50' X 450' each, to be shipped to finishing houses. The property, a total of 106.62 acres, has an older farm house, barn, two very nice metallic buildings, 3 stock tanks, all the acerage is planted in Johnson Grass for a hay operation and the minerals are negotiable.
From Cameron take Hwy. 77 north to Ben Arnold; turn right onto FM 1444 which becomes FM 1445 for 8.2 miles; turn right onto CR 274 for 1.1 miles; turn right onto CR 275 for 0.4 miles property will be on the left

As our economy changes, my wife and I have searched for ways to entertain ourselves without stretching the budget too awfully much. Sometimes we simply enjoy jumping in the car,and taking short Saturday afternoon cruises in our area of the state. Fuel costs are down somewhat... so it isn't too expensive to fill up the Mustang GT and hit the highway. Besides being fun little excursions, I have discovered the added benefit of getting to learn some of the back roads in the adjoining counties I work in, which does benefit me as a Realtor. We always have our cameras with us and one of the more interesting subjects to photograph are the different county courthouses.
This one is located in Cameron, Texas and is the Milam County Courthouse. Very Beautiful.
