Our summer flowers kind of drag on for most of the summer and then it seems like they just go crazy and all bloom at once. The bees, butterflies, and a whole host of other nectar lovers also go crazy at the last moment. Here is a small collage of some of what we experienced this season. It is always sad when the last flowers fall of the vine. Before long there won't be a lot to see or smell as winter sets in.

Every evening for years my wife Khris and I tune in to the nightly sunset from our back porch. The horizon at our place is about 5 miles, so the sunsets can be really a joy at times. This evening there was a touch of fall in the air, and when I hit the zoom on the camera this cloud almost resembled Old Man Winter blowing up a cold front...could this be a sign of a cold winter to come.

Recently we had bee hives placed on our land. I was really excited to do this because our veggie garden and flower gardens just haven't had the pollination we desired for a few years now. These bees came from over a hundred miles away via a good beekeeper that we had referred to us. The bees have been gourging on the pollen in our moonflowers that bloom prolifically at night. Each morning there are so many bees that it sounds like an airport with all the buzzing going on! Can't wait for the honey!!

A good while back I did a post about how everyone should have a special place to go to , to think and relax after work each day. We have developed several little special places around our home that my wife and I visit every evening befor dusk just to enjoy nature and the quiet. We have a long fence outside our bedroom that is litterally covered in a big variety of blooming vines all of which emit enchanting fragrances that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and at dusk our very favorite ...the Hawk moths come out during the hottest part of our central Texas summers to savor the nector these flolwers produce.

Talk about an experience involving all the sensors....this is one! These moths are about the size of a small hummingbird . They are not spooked very easily and you can almost touch them . And sometimes if you are lucky to get close enough, you can hear their little wings making a helicopter sound and occasionally they will brush your face. The fragrance of some of these tropical vines is extraordinary both for humans and God's little miracles that feed on them. So all of this going on at once is better than satellite TV any day in our book!
Take time to smell the roses and enjoy you special place!
