They dot the horizon in our county, those behemoth metal structures called "cell towers."

We are all slaves to our cell phones and as a result I suppose until everything is satellite based we are doomed to depend on these towers. To me they are an eyesore, but just like the mineral rights owner with an oil rig pumping in his back yard....the lease money for these tower locations just keeps on a coming as long as the demand is there. Not to long ago most of the towers in our area of Robertson County, just outside Hearne and Franklin, changed the night time lights on the towers from a flashing white strobe to the old time slow blinking red beacon. Why does this matter? We used to be kept awake at night by a white tower light that was over a mile away from our home. It would light up the living room and bedroom. Not anymore, even though in the daylight hours they operate with the white strobe. I suppose the white light is easier to see in the daytime.

Right now all my roses are dormant. The last ones to bloom stopped about 6 weeks ago. We love roses and have planted a variety of them on our property.

The soil in this part of Robertson County is very sandy and requires quite a bit of amendments to get roses to grow and bloom. But once we get that soil to the right level...watch out! They bloom with gorgeous blooms. Roses are a fantastic addition to the landscaping in a yard and by planting a variety of them you can be sure of lots of flowers from early spring all the way through late fall.
They also can really make a home stand out when it comes time to sell.

We live out in a rural area that has abundant wildlife . But we are fortunate enough to have a little bit of Colorado right in our backyard. One of our neighbors has several thousand acres which is high-fenced with some non-native species stocked on the property. Occasionally we get to see some exotic game from Africa or some other foreign place. But I just love it when the elk show their face now and then. They are truly the monarchs of the deer family. This mother has 2 young ones at her side.

Our area received a little snow in late 08' and also the year before.
area This is certainly not common for the Robertson county area of Texas! I mentioned to my wife the other day that I thought we were supposed to be in the midst of a global warming trend....but whenever we turn on the news I am confounded at the amount of cold weather our entire nation has received. There certainly has been a lot of snow in the south!
Hope you enjoy the shots! Certainly doesn't look like Texas does it?
