I love to just stop and photograph old country churches......there is something magnetic about them.
And I often like to imagine how and why they began. Were they an offshoot from another church, were they just started by pioneer settlers? I am sure if they could talk they would have many stories to tell us. This small quaint church is located just west of Wheelock, Texas on FM 391 in Robertson County , Texas just a few miles east of Blackjack community. The bell is very interesting.

Dunns Fort was established southwest of Wheelock, Texas in 1832. It was a combination land office-courthouse, but it was initially built for defense. A state commemorative marker is at the original site southwest of Wheelock close to the Robertson-Brazos county border.
There's really nothing left of the fort. But there is a state commemorative marker . The fort was begun around 1832 and is located sothwest pf Wheelock, Texas.
Roberton County has a rich an diversified history.

None of us ever likes to think to long about where we would like to be buried. After all, when we are gone we won't really care much now will we? But alas it is a stark fact that most of us prefer to leave our physical bodies in a place that seems peaceful and secure. I have passed this nicely kept cemetery many times and for some reason it really seems quite pleasant. The Wheelock Cemetery is just a short drive from my home and is located on FM 391 between Hearne and Wheelock at the corner of ( where else?) Wheelock Cemetery Road.

Or area is really getting behind in rainfall. Many of the ponds and lakes in ours and surrounding counties are seeing water levels continuing to decline. I would say we are in a drought and as a result our commissioners have set burn bans as the grass and hayfield are becoming dryer each day.

The few light scattered rain showers we have seen this month, generally have had little or no effect and usually the grass drys out agin within a couple of days.

Rural Communities are very dependent on volunteer fire departments for fire protection. These departments are often limited in equipment and dollars, but many of them make up for those problems with great effort and courage. Located between Hearne and Wheelock, Texas on FM 391 is the Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department. This department has done a great job of protecting the area it serves in Robertson County .
