“After 7 years of military service I decided to pursue real estate, the reasons were simple…help people and earn money in a career I love. So you study and learn your trade, soak in everything real estate, then what? You try to establish yourself and find a corner of the market to make your own. Then reality sets in, helping people and making money isn’t as easy as you thought. You browse through all sorts of different possible ventures and ideas, but nothing seems to feel just right. Well stop searching, Homes for Heroes is the answer. As the son of a Texas Ranger, older brother to a 4 year Air Force veteran and a proudly serving Navy SEAL, I found a program I am proud to be a part of. Homes for Heroes allows me to fulfill all my goals, helping people, earning money and cornering a share of the market. I must warn you, however, this program is not for everyone, you must want to truly help others. I was told when I joined “It is not about quantity, but quality.” and nothing rings more true. This program is aimed at the best among us, the ones that risk their lives, protect our streets, heal our wounds, and teach our children. In return as an HFH affiliate we give back with just as much conviction and gratitude. This program is bigger than buying or selling a house, it is helping those that help us. I am proud to call myself an affiliate of HFH, and my clients who have saved thousands of dollars in finding their dream home are happy to know that someone out there cares, and you had better believe their loyalty runs deep not only to me but to HFH. Homes for Heroes has not only improved my career but it has improved my heart, and for that I am most grateful.”

Wednesday's Child

Helen Johnson: Real Estate Brokerage in Minneapolis, MN

Homes for Heroes would like to share this heart-warming story for Christmas.

This is from my friend Terry Savage, Alex’s Mom. Her son was killed 4 years ago in Iraq. Please pray for our troops and their families especially at Christmas time.

Perhaps it’s true that Wednesday’s child is full of woe. He certainly filled that bill, and has seen more than his fair share of misery and war. He is a father who missed many Christmases and other “special” days.

Those of us at home tend to focus mainly on being left behind, but there is another side to the tale. He recalls standing watch on the bridge of a ship at sea on Christmas Day, flying a tired old transport airplane through the dark and starry night on Christmas Eve, eating mess hall/ward room turkey surrounded by a bunch of sad and gloomy male faces, and finally crashing on a lonely bunk in some far away place and wondering what it was like for the family back home.

But he never questioned why he was there, doing what he did. As he tells me, we are the land of the free only because first and foremost we are the home of the brave.

On this snowy morning I am aware that many of Point’s finest who listened to the speech last night will soon deploy into harm’s way. I am convinced that they are not “the enemy camp” but are those referenced by George Orwell when he said, “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”

And so I am grateful for this rough and ready man, this Wednesday’s child, and those like him, who go, in spite of fear, into the unknown of battle, who run toward the gunfire instead of away, and those who discover ultimately that hearts are the same all over the world, that all parents want the same future for their children, that it does not matter the day or holiday, that what is done with unconditional love is never done in vain.
