Tonight I was lucky to enjoy dinner and music at Nova, a "gastropub," located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. The term gastropub was coined in England from the two words gastronomy and pub. In general, less emphasis is placed on food in a "gastropub." The trendy restaurant is well known for its selection of boutique beers. Tonight I sampled Pimm's Cup, which was a gin based drink that was a delicious blend of spice and fruits.
Nova redefines the term "gastropub," with its creative and delicious menu. Guests can enjoy small plates of tasty food with their beverage of choice. Tonight we sampled Kelly's Rooster Garlic Hummus served with pita chips, from the Small Plate List, and the Fresh Tomato, Fresh Basil, and Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese Pizza drizzled with Balsamic Vinegar. (The nearby Texas Theatre serves pizza from Nova!) The most creative and delicious item we tried was the Kobe Beef Hot Dog, wrapped in bacon, and topped with shredded Swiss cheese AND the most delicious fried onions on the planet! The hot dog was served on a delicately toasted bun. Check out Nova's creative menu online.
Sit on the delightful covered outdoor patio complete with fans for summer comfort. The long tables make it easy to make new friends while listening to live music!
Visit this Cliff dweller in spot and you will not be disappointed.

DFW home inspection services are about to change!
There is a new sheriff in town when it comes to a professional DFW Home inspection. Green Scene Home Inspections vows to be the first local DFW home inspection service that offers home energy audits along with their certified professional TREC inspections. Austin and Houston are already requiring that a potential real estate transaction must have an energy audit performed before a title can change hands. It’s a $2500 fine to a Realtor if this service is not performed.
A current DFW home inspection only covers the “condition” of the property. By adding a free basic home energy analysis on the “performance” of a home, buyers can make more educated decisions on what their potential energy bills could be. GSHI also offers several different energy efficient based services. We all know someone that has recently paid $800-$1200 for an electric bill, trying to keep a house cool in this scorching Texas heat. Do you want to be the person that sold them that house?
With all the foreclosures sitting on the market today, many of these homes have been empty for long periods of time, leaving the house to weather the elements of winter and summer with no heating or cooling. This can cause major issues for a potential home buyer. A DFW home inspection is essential! Take the next step and go beyond the typical DFW home inspection and find out what a home’s performance is to avoid future lawsuits and unhappy buyers.
When you buy a car, one of the questions high on your list is how many miles per gallon it gets. We all pay attention to those gas prices, right? Well, why wouldn’t you want to know how much your future energy bills could be? With the economy being in its current state, people are paying extra close attention to their monthly expenses.

A typical DFW home inspection does not focus on performance efficiencies. GSHI has over 150 years of combined experience in the professional real estate industry in residential and commercial fields. Owner Clayton Bailey is a fourth generation real estate professional. He calls himself a modern day “Carbon Cowboy,” helping people reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs in their new home. His job is to provide help before customers are approached by multiple companies in the market trying to sell them equipment or products that they may not need. It is true that in this Texas heat the attic is one of the main areas to focus on. Get the house in proper working order before you make major purchases on HVAC equipment or Radiant Barrier. These items do work, but not unless the house is functioning like it should. GSHI offers a DFW home inspection service that can rival no other DFW home inspection company in the market by inspecting both the “condition” and “performance” of the home – what a true “hybrid” DFW home inspection should be!

With all of my posts about food and restaurants, I can't believe that I have missed reviewing one of my favorites, Gonzales Restaurant in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas.
Oak Cliff is a very vibrant and historic area of Dallas, and has had a resurgence of restaurants in recent years. But being in Dallas, though Tex Mex has always been a part of the city and Gonzales restaurant has served the community since 1973!
Located at 367 West Jefferson, Gonzales Restaurant features some of the most flavorful Tex Mex in town at very reasonable prices. It is a very casual dining experience where the star is the food. They have wonderful Tex Mex favorites like Fajitas, Taco and Enchiladas. If you are looking for a real treat, their Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas or Mole Chicken Mole Enchiladas are simply outstanding.
Other elements of the meal that make Gonzales Restaurant stand out are their chips and hot sauce. Their hot sauce is not only spicy, but it is served warm and has a great smoky flavor that sets it apart from many others. Additionally, their homemade tortillas are not to be missed! Thick and flavorful they are wonderful and filling... be sure to save room!
Gonzales Restaurant is, to me, Tex Mex comfort food at its best and that includes the price. With tax and tip, you can easily get out for less than $15/person. Outstanding food and great prices are a winning combination that the Gonzales Restaurant have definitely mastered.

I woke up this morning at 4 AM and the sky was bright. I thought, "What in the world is going on?" I went back to sleep and woke up to snow! Lots and lots of snow with huge flakes. Dallas, TX doesn't see this kind of snow very often. Today is also my husbands birthday. So he decided to take the morning off work and we all stayed home to play in the snow. This is the first snow like this that our 2 year old has ever seen. He had fun making snow angels and throwing snowballs. I think he enjoyed the snowballs the best! It's still coming down hard so there may be time to build a snowman yet!
