Ridiculous - Is a free sandwich worth this much?

Yesterday, my wife (Andrea) and I had lunch together. Typically, we are unable to have lunch because she is caught up in meetings or can't take a full hour (the life of a VP). Anyway, we thought some chicken sandwiches sounded good. And of course if you think Chicken Sandwich, you have to think of Chick-fila. Well there is a new Chick-fila coming to Frisco, TX. We were not sure when it was opening, but thought it would be a good idea to check it out. Usually when anything opens in Frisco, it is PACKED with people. But hey, we love to support the new local restaurants and a chicken sandwich from there is always good.

When we arrived, we were not surprised that we missed the opening BY ONE DAY. It actually opened today (11/20/08). We were, however, surprised to see this very large crowd. Not just a crowd... this was a crowd with tents. Remember, I went on 11/19 and it did not open until 11/20. I figured there must be someone important coming or something to give a speech. NOPE! Turns out that the first few customers that arrived would receive a free meal once a week for a year.

Sure, if you happen to be the first person to show up.. BONUS.. you get free lunch for a year (we are talking about a $5.50 meal). But posting tents and sleeping overnight... I don't think so. Check out the photos I took while driving by...

Would you camp out for a free sandwich once a week?

Chick-Fila is officially open. They are located on the SouthWest corner of El Dorado and North Dallas Tollway. Remember, they are closed Sundays so make sure to go Monday through Saturday.

What are you giving?

Do you or your office give away Christmas / Holiday gifts to clients? If so, what are they?

Years past I would always print up nice pocket calendars but have not done that for a few years now. My wife always makes a few wine baskets that we take to a few over the top clients but can't think of what else to do and was looking here for some ideas.

Tell me what you like to give out please and thanks in advance,

Geoffrey Davis

Frisco Cycling Club November Update

Geoffrey Davis: Mortgage Company in Frisco, TX

Hello Frisco Cycling,
The Clinic:

I wanted to thank all of the members, and guests that attended our clinic on Mon. Jeff LaBauve did a fantastic job of conveying some tips on weight training for cyclists. We had 17 show for the clinic, very good especially considering the storms that were moving through the area.

I would appreciate feedback from those of you that attended. This will give some direction for future clinic content.

Thanks again for attending - I'm now off to begin work on next quarter's clinic - details to be posted soon. Cheers, Joel

The Questions:

Please cut and paste this section in a reply e-mail back to this address and let me know your thoughts please:

  1. Do you like the randomness of the FCC news- sent when we get it, or would you rather just have one newsletter per month on a set day?
  2. If you were able to do a road lunch ride during the week, no longer than 1 and a half hours- what day would that be on and where would be convenient to meet?
  3. We are planning a Holiday Lunch for FCC in mid December at Terilli's. Is there a particular day that stands out as "the perfect day?"
  4. What bike rallies or tours will you do next year and think other FCC members would enjoy the ride?
  5. What road bike races will you do next year and think other FCC members should compete also?
  6. Have you ever heard of Hell Week in the Hill Country and would you like to stay in a house the FCC will rent for this years event?

Upcoming Events:

We need 5 volunteers to help coordinate this years FCC Holiday Toy Drive. Each volunteer will be responsible for a donation box to be placed at each of our sponsor's locations. We'd like for the boxes to be out just after Thanksgiving so that there will be plenty of time for donations prior to Christmas.

I will contact each of the sponsors beforehand to coordinate accordingly. I also have signs that I will printed for each of the boxes.

Please send me an email if you're interested in helping out. My email address is jellis2696@yahoo.com Thanks for your help, Jeff Ellis 214-912-1758

Upcoming Rides:

This Sunday's Recovery ride will follow a special route, taking us south from Frisco, connecting both the White Rock Creek and White Rock Lake Trails. The route will be approximately 60mi (as opposed to the 71 advertised earlier). We'll have about 16 ½ miles from Frisco to the trail connection at Hillcrest and Valley View Ln. We'll then take the 24mi loop around the lake, stopping for a brief lunch. We'll take break points as needed; just want an enjoyable ride for everyone.

Pace will be 15-16, although once on the trail we'll likely be slower than that at points. The biggest obstacle on the trail will be pedestrians, so ride safely and keep enough distance between yourself and the rider in front of you. Bring a light lunch - PBJ, some fruit, etc. Don't overload.

Although there will be other riders to help, make sure you come prepared and are self-sufficient on the ride. Understand that we will be on city streets for the first and last 16mi of the ride and are expected to ride responsibly and obey all traffic laws. Watch your leader if you have any questions.

Bring a cell phone for emergency contact. Watch the weather! I'll be posting a reminder on Sat, but right now it looks to be a cool morning and you'll want to dress appropriately.

I'll post the route we are taking to the trail over the next couple of days. Joel

Denton Turkey Roll 2008; November 22

Club members wishing to participate in this great rally as a group ride, please follow the link to register. Details to follow on transportation, groups and such. The plan is to start together in our club kit and keep members with similar pace together during the ride - meeting up at rest stops and just generally enjoy a good day of cycling. I've done this ride before and it is worth participation.

Last week I wrote about a friend who Beta launched his new web site- Plus 3 Network. Plus 3 stands for; me + a cause + their sponsors = rewards to a charity! It is free to create an account and earn money for a charity of your choice (I will soon change my charity as I am getting BikeDFW connected to them soon!). They also have challenges created by companies and one day I hope to create one! I have ridden 141 miles so far in the SRAM 300. When I reach 300 road miles they send me a free pair of socks. Yes, sounds silly as I use to work for SRAM and could just call in and get some socks but this is way more fun.

Last week I did a 20 miler, a 30 miler and a 50 mile ride- that is the most I have ridden in 1 week in, oh say 7 years. I hope you will create an account and do a search for me and ask me to become a buddy on the site.

Son already asking about next year!

A bit ago we had our Fall Festival at St. Philip's Episcopal. The event was the brain child of a member who wanted a shade canopy to be put over the children's play area. The Vestry told her the church did not have the funds for that and she asked if she could promote an event as a fund raiser. They said yes and in its 1st year she made enough to cover the cost of the canopy you see over the children's area.

Well, she continues to promote the event with all proceeds going to the St. Philip's pre school and now has a good size committee helping her efforts in their 3rd year. The event is awesome and has tons of small games, bake sale, silent auction, family photos and the dunk tank is always a huge hit. $1 gets you 3 tosses but who is in the dunk tank is most important. Most all of our Priests have done it each year, members of the Vestry and even some staff members.

The photo above is of my son as he is ready at a shot at Vestry member Todd Atwood. His arm did not let him down and sunk Todd 2 times! Ata boy!
