Couples night out in Katy Texas

The event is called Dinner and a Marriage and it will be held on Monday January 16, 2012 at Hasta La Pasta Restaurant which is located at 1450 W. Grand Parkway South Katy Texas. The restaurant is in the same strip mall where a Kroger grocery store is situated. The cost is a donation of $35.00 and a couple will receive an Italian dinner and dessert. The event is sponsored by Home Encouragement. The event starts at 7:00 P.M.

Couples attending who are not married will receive encouragement to get married. For couples already married it will be a special date night for just the two of you. There are no requirements other than attend and relax.

Per the Home Encouragement web site the group “is determined to help Houston marriages become important again to families. Our goal is to also reduce the divorce rate in the Greater Houston area. We are in partnership with many others in our area who share that same dream”.

I personally do not know anything about this organization but encouraging marriage and discouraging divorce are principles I personally endorse. Hasta La pasta is not my favorite restaurant but it is OK.

Holiday Greeting Card Contest for ActiveRain– Christmas Card Created by Me for Katy Texas

The Positive Attitude for Weary souls group holds an Annual Holiday contest each year and gives you the opportunity to share your creative side during the holiday season with a creative writing challenge. Please Join in on the Challenge with the ActiveRain Greeting Card Contest.

This is my Holiday Greeting card I created using HP software. I will be sending it to past and present clients only as I do not have customers in my business. I want to stay in touch with this group and plan to try to contact one member from each family during the holidays. I spent a significant amount of time playing with all the settings. I took the picture on the front at the old train station in Old Katy Texas and used it as I like the way the community has left this station as a local monument and tribute to the past. I wanted a simple and traditional Christmas and New Year’s message as opposed to a trendy politically correct message. I have also included the inside of the card. This software let you create a file but it cannot be used anywhere else but in HP software.

I want to wish all my virtual friends on Active rain Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

New State Educational Requirements Discussed in Katy Texas

All community members and especially Katy ISD parents are invited on Thursday November 3, 2011 to a meeting where the new State of Texas educational testing procedures will be discussed. The orientation meeting will begin at 6:30 P.M. and will last till 8:30 P.M. The session is being held at the Cinco Ranch High School Performing Arts Center, 23440 Cinco Ranch Blvd Katy Texas. The brand new Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will replace the currently used TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge) test for grades 3 thru 8 and beginning ninth-graders. The new test will start this school year during spring 2012 and the purpose of this orientation is to make everyone aware of the change and tell what to expect from the new State Test.

A publication named “Eyes on STAAR” will be a recurring booklet publishes through the school year. Right now the publication is covering transition question and answers. The “Eyes of STAAR” can be found on the Texas Education Agency web site. This periodical has mostly highlights taken from the recent House Bill 3 Transition.

Personally, I am happy we do not have to worry about this testing change as my youngest step-son is a senior this year at Seven Lakes High School. ACT and/or SAT are worries for us right now.

Open House at Fire Station in Katy Texas

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, the Willowfork Fire Department will hold an open house on Sunday October 9, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. The station is located at 24655 Westheimer Parkway Katy Texas. All attendees will get the opportunity to visit with the firefighters, thank them for their hard work protecting many homes view all the firefighting equipment and apparatus. The station has 7 firefighters available on each swift.

National Fire Prevention Week runs from Sunday October 9 and ends on Saturday October 15, 2011. The Fire Prevention Week’s campaign this year is “Protect your Family from Fire”. The main trust is to educate all of us on the main causes of home fires and give all of us various tips on how to protect you and your family’s home with new life saving technologies. National Fire Prevention team is also stressing the importance of creating a home escape plan for all members of the family to follow in case of a fire.

The Willowfork Fire Station is also home to Fort Bend County EMS ambulance and Medic 9. This group is staffed by two full time employees from the Fort Bend County Emergency Medical Services. EMS personnel are available every day for 24 hours each day.

Residents of the service area have a good opportunity to see the Fire Station in person and get to know the personnel. Please let all of thank both the brave fighters and EMS personnel for all of their hard work keeping the rest of us safe.
