Yup, we're talking about that Martha.......
A few years ago, Martha Stewart teamed up with a national home builder and selected Katy TX as the site for one of several communities to be built in the United States. Three absolutely, drop-dead, sample homes were built. All we needed was the scent of an ocean breeze and the Nantucket-feeling would have been complete.
Nothing was spared in the creation of these homes. I can't show pictures (yet), but imagine a cross between the house in Something's Gotta Give, and the homes in The Stepford Wives. As we know, timing is everything, and it's all about location, location, location. Although Katy is a boomtown, the economy did have an impact on certain types of new construction, and the site for these new homes, certainly left something to be desired.
Sooooooooo, the concept didn't really take off, and only 10 homes were built. Selling the sample homes proved to be difficult, because no one wanted a $750K home built on land, that might soon boast $300K homes as neighbors. It seemed that no price could be found for these sample homes, but, finally some courageous souls came forward (yours truly almost stepped up to the challenge) and were rewarded with three beautiful homes.
Houston Home Staging was recently selected by one of these homeowners to consult on one of these magnificent homes. Located in Katy's prestigious Woodcreek Reserves, this beautiful home is now surrounded by equally beautiful homes, in a neighborhood that boasts great schools, dedicated nature preserves, and quick access to the major highways.
Staging a Nantucket mansion is certainly anyone's dream come true. Staging a Martha Stewart home (one that Martha has actually been in, and supervised) was a daunting task, but an incredible pleasure. The challenge with this project is that we have a 'celebrity' house (Martha Stewart) with a dubious sales history. So, we've chosen to downplay the Martha Stewart labels, and bring up the incredible value that this $650K, 5400+ sq ft home presents. Paring down to simple-but-elegant, was a difficult task, but once accomplished, this house became the perfect little-black-dress-with-pearls, that sounds so easy to find, but is so difficult to find.
As Dolly Parton frequently states: "it's really expensive to look this cheap" . So it is with home staging. The seller of this property, had enlisted the services of a professional stager, a professional decorator, and assorted other professional opinions, and still, all the kings horses...... couldn't reveal the incredible value of this soon-to-be-quickly-sold home.
