NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas The creature attacked. The residents escaped. Now it's your turn. Visiting families will be thrilled this season with the unleashing of Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort's latest sensation, the Dragon's Revenge, scheduled to open this summer.
Park guests, eager to flee the wrath of the dragon's attack, weave in and around castle ruins in search of an escape route before the mystical creature returns. After crossing over a draw bridge and entering into the castle's guard tower, guests quickly discover the only way out is through a labyrinth of ominous caverns. Once aboard the escape vehicle, thrill-seekers are quickly propelled through a series of uphill blasts rocketing riders in and out, up and down around the perimeter of the castle before taking a final fog-filled freefall into the castle's mote below. Guests careen through six dark creepy caverns filled with magical special effects including spinning tunnels, theatrical lighting, fiber optics, riveting original music, aromatic atmosphere, fog, faux fire and an encounter with the angry dragon.
Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort will open weekends beginning Saturday, April 26. Visit www.schlitterbahn.com for more information

This is my entry for find an old Texas church. Hope you enjoy a little history and my photo's for this church.
BEAUTIFUL 1878 NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH
CZESTOCHOWA
This church was founded in1876 and was built in and dedicated in 1878 in Cestohowa, Texas (originally Czestochowa) located on Cibolo Creek in northern Karnes City, TX. It is a daughter settlement of Panna Maria, the oldest Polish settlement in America. In 1873 a group left Panna Maria and moved five miles north and named the city after Our Lady of Czestochowa, the patroness of Polish Catholics. They first built a small school that served as a chapel. A priest came once a month to hold mass. The church was completed in 1878 and named under the patronage of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Tried to get the steeple all in but would have had to go into the creek.

This church was remodeled in 1931, repaired and painted in 1973. In 1936 the community had about 100 residents and about 200 in 1970. As of today 110 families call this their church home.
The church was originally built of native rock and stone and was plastered over through the years. This church is well maintained and is visited frequently by tourist because of it's Polish heritage.
Here are some pictures that will show how well the grounds are maintained. They do not have a website. Head Sister said maybe in the future.

This is a video of the Cactus Cuties, Young ladies ranging in age from 8 to 13 singing The Star Spangled Banner. The performance was at the Texas Tech vs. Texas basketball game January 20, 2008 in front of over 11,000 people.

If you are planning on a visit to Gruene , Texas I am going to give you a map as the bridge is down and you will have to take a detour. I would think they will have a Wee St. Patrick's Day special planned for this month.
http://activerain.com/blogsview/400317/EVERYTHING-TEXAS-7-IN This will take you to my blog series on Everything Texas featuring Historic Gruene and the oldest dance hall in Texas.
www.gruenemarketdays.com This link will display some activities from 2007 and schedule for 2008,

If in your travels to Gruene you get here without going across the Gruene River Bridge then do not be concerned as all other access points remain open. If you get here by traveling across the Gruene River Bridge, which is just below Gruene Hall then read on as you can still access Gruene from the 2 other primary access points as noted below:
Two primary access points to Gruene Historic District will remain open during the construction project - both are easily accessible from IH-35 and one of these direct from downtown New Braunfels.
Recommended Routes from IH-35:
1. (Most recommended) From IH 35, reach Gruene via Exit 191, then travel west on FM 306 and then left on Hunter Road.
2. Via exit 189, then travel west on Highway 46 (aka Loop 337), then right on Common Street to Gruene Road.
From downtown New Braunfels:
If traveling inside Loop 337, access Gruene via Common Street and cross loop 337 to Gruene Road.
Thanks, and we'll see you in Gruene!
If you are spending the night you may want to try The Gruene AMansion Inn
