Oak Ridge North, Texas feels like a small hometown because it is! And yet, it is closer to The Woodlands Mall and Town Center than many of The Woodlands Villages. It is just east of The Woodlands Town Center, which has a vast array of shopping and dining options, but without the congestion of commercial areas. Just pop over the I-45 bridge in a couple of minutes and you have "arrived".
Oak Ridge North is a neighborhood of homes built mostly in the 70's on large lots, but there is also newer construction in Oak Ridge Grove, a Darling Home community, and many of the older properties have been completely updated. It is a lovely area with huge trees and established landscaping, but still very affordable. Many of the residents have lived in their homes for over 30 years or more, and some of their children are choosing to come back to the area to raise their families.
Oak Ridge North has its own Mayor, police and fire department, and community pool, tennis courts, basketball court and covered pavilion; all within walking distance of the majority of the neighborhood. Flips, a renowned gymnastic facility is right on the main drag of Robinson Road and many kids come from The Woodlands and Spring to train there.
The Food Basket is right in Oak Ridge North on the feeder road to I-45 and can be reached via the back streets, so there is no need to get out of the neighborhood into the frantic traffic. The Hodge family just completed a major renovation of the store and it creates a stress-free shopping experience. Many other businesses that bring convenience to daily living are in close proximity as well.
The town slogan is "Oak Ridge North, what a hometown should be". To find out more about this small town with so much at its fingertips, click on this link: http://www.oakridgenorth.com/index.aspx.

Teddy Bear Park
(how cute is that)
Nestled in the mature trees of Oakridge North is a quaint little park that is reminiscent of a more simple time.
The Victorian park lights and wooden park benches offer a place for the young and old to reconnect with each other or with themselves.
The large play structure offers more than enough variety to entertain the young or young at heart for hours giving parents a little reprieve.
The park is completely surrounded by wrought iron fences giving parents a sense of safety. No worries about balls being chased into oncoming traffic.

Oak Ridge North is a little city located on the east side of I-45 directly across the interstate from The Woodlands. Its earliest homes date back to the mid 1960's. The neighborhood with its mature trees and over-sized lots reminds me of the neighborhoods of Memorial before they started tearing the homes down to build micro-mansions.
This past year I have had the pleasure of listing several homes in Oak Ridge North and I was impressed by friendly, helpful neighbors. Another item of interest about that neighborhood is that when I listed one of the larger homes in the area, five Oak Ridge North residents actually previewed the home because they needed a larger home but refused to leave their beloved Oak Ridge North. I actually sold that home to one of those residents!
The school that serve Oak Ridge North are highly acclaimed and are conveniently located next door to the neighborhood. Oak Ridge North also has its own police department, mayor and city hall. And most people actually know the mayor on a first name basis. How often does that happen?
If your looking for a lot of house for the dollar, I highly recommend Oak Ridge North. It is convenient to the interstate, The Woodlands Mall, Waterway, Market Street, and The Pavilion, while costing a fraction of the cost of The Woodlands. The homes I sold in Oak Ridge North sold in the mid- $200,000's, but in The Woodlands they would have been closer to the mid $300,000.
While I love The Woodlands and live in The Woodlands, I also love Oak Ridge North. It has loads of charm and small town feel.
