Every year I miss these by a weekend or two. And every year, I tell myself I'll remember the next year. Silly, since they're held 10 minutes from the ranch and I'm probably one of the few people you know who is absolutely convinced that haggis is food of the gods, the pipes are music of the gods, and whose daughter, when hearing that the educational tour we were going on to Scotland would include a ceilli, said "Men in skirts with pipes and swords! I'm going to have to get you a leash!".
Well, maybe this is the year! (But no leash necessary, my husband would be with me). Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, the 49th Annual Salado Scottish Clan Gathering and Highland Games will be held in Salado, Texas. I don't have anything in my clan tartan to wear, but maybe I'll go anyway.
Perhaps I'll see you there!

Texas Department of Transportation Public Hearing
Interstate 35 in Salado From FM 2843 to FM 2484

The Texas Department of Trasportation (TxDOT) held the final public hearing for IH-35 widening in Salado Texas from FM 2843 to FM 2484. The meeting was held Thursday, March 11th, 2010 at 6:30PM at the Salado Intermediate School in Salado. The purpose of this project is to increase mobility and improve safety by widening this section of IH-35 from four lanes to six lanes and to convert the existing two-way frontage roads to one-way.
The existing right-of-way corridor is approcimately 250 feet wide. The proposed right-of-way corridor will vary in width along the project. Approximately 29 acres of new right-of-way would be required. Right-of-way acquisition will result in approximately seven residential and sixteen commercial relocations. The latest total estimated cost of construction for this project is approximately $90,000,000. The alignment presented on the maps at the meeting were a combination of input from citizens, public officials, and property owners from the original designs presented at public meetings in July 2000, March 2001, May 2007, and April 2009. Right-of-way acquisition is expected to start in the summer of 2010, and construction start date planned for the Fall of 2011.
