Haak Winery is a small, family owned business that started as a hobby for Raymond Haak, after his wife, Gladys, bought him a couple of Concord grapevines as a gift to him for their 10th wedding anniversary.

They have phenomenal wines, but what I especially like about Haak Winery is that on Friday evenings, they have "Dinner in the Cellar", which is a 3-course meal and for a small fee, comes with pairings. The food is as outstanding as the wine and the atmosphere is very romantic. They also offer Sunday concerts during the Summer, so it's fun for the entire family!

It is not in every community that you can boast living close to a winery. But right here in Galveston County, just a short drive from Galveston Island is Haak Winery. Nestled in the trees on the outskirts of Santa Fe Texas, this cozy winery grows and bottles some of the best wines in the country.

The owners Raymond & Gladys Haak started in 1996 with just two grape vines. As they researched and tested different varieties of grapes, they soon found just what they were looking for. A hybrid grape that was resistant to heat & Pierce’s Disease (a bacterial infection that feeds on grape vines) and that grew well in a dry environment. Haak became one of the first wineries in the country to cultivate Blanc du Bois. Since then the Haak’s have produced numerous medal winning wines. The winery now has over 25,000 square feet of space including 1,800 square feet of cellar where they age and store their wines in oak barrels.

They have entertainment and events, rooms to rent for weddings and parties and an annual pruning day. So on your next visit to Galveston be sure to pull off at the Haak Winery where you can visit their wine tasting room and do a little shopping in their gift shop!

An Orphan's Bright Star, Inc. was founded for the purpose of supplying Ukrainian orphanages with funds and/or in-kind donations to complete projects not covered by the limited funds available to them from the Ukrainian government.

We select orphanages to assist based on their relative needs and work closely with the directors of these homes to identify needs lists and/or projects required for the well being of the children in their care. Local contacts in Ukraine act as liaisons between An Orphan's Bright Star's members and the orphanages to bridge any language differences. Change is a constant in working with the orphanages, therefore having liaisons adept at securing timely and accurate information from orphanage staff is fundamental to our work.
