About The Woodlands' Town Green Park

Has it been nearly 30-years since the Woodlands started the annual Lighting of the Doves Festival?

This year as in recent years Lighting of the Doves Festival in the Woodlands, TX will again be held adjacent to Town Green Park along the Woodlands Waterway. This marks the official kick off for the Christmas season here in the Woodlands, TX. My family and I have been in the Conroe/Woodlands Area for over 25 years. This year the event will be as grand as ever and this Saturday November 19, 2011 there will be plenty to do for families in the Woodlands. Here's what's happening:

First, last week the Ice Rink at Woodlands Town Center had their preview weekend. And this weekend November 19, 2011 the Ice Rink at Woodlands Town Center will be open daily through January 16, 2012. In addition The Woodlands Winter Wonderland will be open daily from November 19, 2011 to January 2, 2012 adjacent to the Woodlands Ice Rink

Second, The International Winter on the Waterway or iWOW is a fun filled afternoon that all starts at 3pm adjacent to Town Green Park. iWOW has loads of activities from a Snow play area and Snow Slide to a variety of Family entertainment acts on 3 stages! It will all wrap up with the Arrival of Santa. Santa will make his grand entrance in a special boat decorated handsomely by his elves along The Woodlands Waterway followed by a reading of the popular poem, ‘Twas the Night before Christmas.

Finally, will be the 29th Annual Lighting of the Doves. As Paula McDonald pointed out it has been held in the same location for 29 years

OH and don't forget the special mailbox for Santa's letters!! Santa has enlisted the helpers at Ace Hardware of The Woodlands @ 10720 Kuykendahl Road and every letter will be placed on the Polar Express in time to reach the North Pole so that Santa will pack all of the children's toys for delivery on Christmas eve. This is the most wonderful time of the year to be in The Woodlands Texas this will be a great start to the Christmas season! I hope you enjoy it as much as my family.

Trick or Treat Trail ~ The Woodlands, Tx

It is that time of year when the costumes come out and our little ones are excited about Halloween. The Woodlands has a wonderful Halloween activity that is called the Trick or Treat Trail.

Trick or Treat" through a festive trail and enjoy kid’s
activities, entertainment and a costume contest!

Bring the entire family out for a great evening of fun and safe things to do. There will be more room this year with the event taking place at Town Green Park. Last year, this event pulled in so many people and was very successful.

RUN THRU THE WOODS THANKSGIVING DAY ~ THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS

Why not start your Turkey Day right and come out to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Thanksgiving morning and either walk a nice 3 mile route or join the runners for a 5 miler through the woods?

This will be the 21st Annual GE Run Thru the Woods! It is a very well attended event and the energy level is high! Everyone is laughing and having a great time especially after the race when consuming the free pancake breakfast!

There is something for everyone! Get out and get some fresh air and then eat that Turkey dinner and dessert GUILT FREE!

Start Times:
7:45am - 1 Mile Children's Race, for ages 12 and under
8:15am - 5 Mile Run
8:25am - 3 Mile Teen Run, for ages 12 - 17
8:35am - 3 Mile Walk

28th ANNUAL LIGHTING OF THE DOVES ~ THE WOODLANDS, TX ~ NOVEMBER 30, 2010

I can hardly believe that this will be the 28th year for the Lighting of the Doves! I have been in this area for over 20 years and remember when this event was in its infancy and was held before there was an overpass of Woodlands Parkway over Grogan's Mill.

The original Lighting of the Doves took place right at the site where the overpass now goes crosses. The event was small and brought out the local school bands and cheerleaders.

Today the event brings in thousands of visitors and there are many, many local performances from high school and junior high bands, choirs, dance groups, cheerleaders and more! The current event now runs from early afternoon until 9 p.m. culminating in the actual lighting ceremony.

The best part is that SANTA will make his appearance at the event so don't forget to bring your cameras to capture the moment.

Town Green Park will be the official location of the event on Saturday, November 20, 2010 - 3 pm to 9 pm.
