About Tooele County, UT

Tooele Chamber, Ads Great New Director !!

Chris Sloan Tooele Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Tooele, UT

The Tooele Chamber of Commerce is our last stand. No more.!!!

finished !!!

But then we said we were done last week. " No more volunteering, no more committees, no more fund raisers, NO MORE 27 HOUR DAYS." That's what we said. We even said that was to be our New Years Resolution.

Well either Berna had her fingers crossed, decided to break our New Years resolution early this year, or just can't help herself. We are destined for another year of late night panic phone calls and ulcer producing calamities. BECAUSE !!!

Last week, Berna was elected a director of the Tooele Chamber of Commerce. (thats a two year stretch, so double everything I say here). In spite of our agreement.

What did I do ? Well I did what every supportive husband is supposed to do, I ranted and I raved, and reminded her that we were partners, and that I thought we had decided that we were just going to say no to volunteering.

I tried GUILT "you know we do have 6 kids between us". They might decide to need us. Or (pay attention to us)

I tried SHAME, "you know you should let someone else have the benefits of these experiences".

I tried LOGIC, "how can we possibly ad an Easter Egg hunt, Santa Parade, Children's Justice Center Golf Tournament and 24 meetings to a schedule that already includes commitments to various Real Estate committees @ the Local, Regional and National level".

I tried GREED, "Berna, we are in the Real Estate business and maybe we should spend any free time we might have to making a living at it".

Nothing worked, and surprisingly I didn't even get the typical arm waving , lips moving unintelligible, latin rebuttal I have grown to love. (It means I'm getting through). All I got was a shake of the head and a soft "I know".

This morning however, Berna made her case, in longhand, on a legal pad, on our kitchen table. No salutation, no explanation, no reference to anything I had said. Just some simple thoughts on why she doe's what she does.

Volunteering is not a choice, it is a responsibility. Ashley E. Hydan

When you teach your son, you teach your son's son. Talmud

Service to others is the payment you make for your space here on earth. Mohammad Ali

The Miracle is this, the more we share the more we have. Anon.

It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot more difficult to make a difference. Tom Brokaw

We make a living by what we do, we make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill

As usual, Berna's right, and proved it. The Chambers gain is our gain also. She will be a wonderful addition to an already fine group. All I ask is that if you hear of a volunteering opportunity, YOU TAKE IT. Or at least, dont tell Berna.

Check out the Chambers site, 2 Wheela, they do great work, and have fantastic directors.(especially the new one).

Off to the Races,..... in Tooele County

Chris Sloan Tooele Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Tooele, UT

Earlier this year the Utah Association of Realtors held their quarterly Board of Directors meeting here in Tooele County at the Miller Motorsports Park. They try to spread their meetings around the State, and this was the first time for Tooele County. People were amazed at the tremendous growth in New Homes from Stansbury Park and Grantsville all the way into Tooele City. They were also impressed with the financial commitment of Larry H Miller, to Tooele County.

The reason I bring this up, is obvious, I want to share the benefits in lifestyle and opportunity that is found in this area and hope that as you look to change where you want to work, or commute or raise your kids you will consider Tooele County, and all it offers.

During the meeting we had an opportunity to spend some time driving the go carts on the beautiful new facility they have. I've spent many pleasant hours watching and participating in events on the full size road course, but never took the opportunity to walk across the lot and see the cart track. These are not your old fashioned amusement park carts. I was kind of laughing to myself as they put us in full driving suits, neck braces, gloves and helmets. I found fairly quickly that this was a good idea. These carts are capable of speeds well in excess of 50 mph! They have designed the track similar to the full scale course, with several different configurations. At any rate, they are great fun, and you wont be bored! Several drivers spun off of the course, which was fine, because there is very little to run into! All of them came back in out of breath and with huge smiles on their faces. I've been a fan of the Sportspark since it was announced, and now it's even worse.

My son's been hasseling me to take him out there, and now I have another excuse, as if I needed one. In addition, they have a museum full of classic sports and race cars, a Fanzz type store, and meeting facilities.

On a related subject, I've been hearing some of the people complaining about the park, and the noise and traffic, as well as Larry H. Miller's "plan" to bring a Nascar Nextel Cup race to Tooele County. I'm not a mind reader, but I know a bit about racing. I can tell you that in my opinion, it won't happen in the foreseeable future, for many reasons. First and foremost is a Cup calender that is full to the brim with races, 36 weeks in all. No one else will be giving up their date for Larry, even if he were inclined. Tracks are suing Nascar to get races because they won't go to their tracks. Secondly, while the track would be great for stock cars, there is nowhere near enough seating capacity. They would have to install somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 times the current spectator seats to match what other tracks offer.

I just spent a weekend at the race at Phoenix International Raceway, and I can tell you from first hand experience, that this area in general, and the Miller Motorsports Park specifically are not ready for the circus that is Nascar Nextel Cup, nor do I think they ever will be. It's all about money, and this facility can't generate enough to feed the Nascar monster. As a fan and a local, I'm perfectly happy with the series we already have here, and the potential benefits having a world class facility like this gives us. The television exposure we have received and continue to receive will pay real dividends to us in the years to come. I hope you take the opportunity to visit this first class addition to Tooele County. It's something to be proud of!

Erdas Best Kept Secret Finds Another Home

Chris Sloan Tooele Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Tooele, UT

The secrets out. Virg's, Erda's contribution to culinary excellence is going big time. Located between Tooele and Stansbury Park, this Tooele County landmark is going to duplicate itself in the old Wingers diner in Taylorsville.

I wanted to make sure we weren't exporting an imitation, so I went over Sunday morning for breakfast, and it's the real McCoy.

The "SPECIAL BURRITO" breakfast is still bigger than the plate, and you can get it any time. I checked out the menu and talked to the waitress to verify that the hamburger and fries were still the best this side of anywhere.

Then the big surprise. In Taylorsville, Virg has the Mexican menu every night, and still boasts the "BEST MEXICAN FOOD" in the valley. I guess they mean both valley's now, Salt Lake, and Tooele.

Were proud of Virg's and wish the whole team great success. From time to time we'll scoot over for one of our favorites just to make sure they dont break with tradition.

For those of you that are not familiar with the legacy of Virg's I found an article in the Transcript Bulletin that you can click on, Virg's Transcript this piece by an unknown writer will tell you more than you'll ever need to know. Have fun.

Want a New Home in "Richville"? Or Stansbury Park ?

Chris Sloan Tooele Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Tooele, UT

This is just between you and me. I don't think the three major New Home builders in Stansbury know it. I think Richmond American Homes knows they have a great product in a great area (Stansbury Place, Picket Lane, Starside). I think Fieldstone Homes is sure that they build "big homes, small prices" in a wonderful neighborhood (Stansbury Place). I am sure that Ivory Homes touts the fact that you can buy a beautiful New Townhome from $150,000 in their new mixed use development Benson Mill Crossing, adjacent to a significant Utah landmark; Benson's Grist Mill.

We all knew that you say. !!! O.K., but did you know that in 1855, a community that had built up around the mill was called RICHVILLE?. Did you know that that little Community once was the Tooele County seat,(until 1861)??? Did you know that Richville, is back, and more vibrant than ever. And most of the people involved don't even know it. Did you know that Richville is a short freeway commute to Salt Lake City? Did you know that you can buy a lot more house for a lot less money in Richville? Did you know there is still an affordable small town place to live and work, Close to everything.? Now you do. Get out and see whats happening in Richville.

For more good history about the area, and Stansbury Park go to Benson Grist Mill and read up on what historians called "a most historical structural landmark"

To see whats happening in Richville today, and why you need an agent to best take advantage of it, click on our website @ New Homes and see what we have to offer besides a history lesson.

Thanks and good luck.

Jobs, Housing, and Tooele County

Chris Sloan Tooele Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Tooele, UT

Read an article on KPCW today that said Money Magazine rates Tooele County as tops for those looking for a job. Apparently, this is because of all the companies locating facilities in the County, specifically the Industrial Depot.

I recently had the opportunity to tour the new plant operated by Carlyle-Syntec, a roofing material manufacturer. In what seemed like many thousands of square feet, we saw real material being manufactured with out being touched by one person! The process is so automated, that each shift (there are 3) only requires 5 people to run the whole deal. They are expanding the facility to double their production (and jobs) later this year.

There are several new companies that have now or are getting ready to start operations here in Toeele. This would seem to demonstrate the truth in KPCW's article that said that these aren't your dad's assembly line jobs of old. These are positions requiring highly skilled employees, and in turn, will pay much better than average. These are exactly the type of jobs Tooele County needs to stop the migration of workers to the Salt Lake Valley every day!

According to the article, there have been no new titanium plants built in this country in 50 years. But Allegheny Technologies will change that when they build their new facility here this year. How does a $450 million dollar facility with a 150 new jobs grab you?

It's a perfect match, new jobs means housing demand, lower land costs mean more affordable housing, more affordable housing attracts companies with more jobs. What a country

Money Magazines article sites lots of reasons to come here, like cheaper land, quality work force, and the proximity to Salt Lake and the airport. I think the next several years will see continuing huge growth as the manufacturing world discovers what several of these companies already have: Tooele is a great place to work, as well as live!
