Lagoon: Utah's version of Disneyland. OK, I will have to admit it has taken me almost 9 years to go to Lagoon.
For anyone not familiar with Lagoon, it is an amusement park that features roller coasters, a water park and all different levels of rides for the entire family. It is located in Farmington, Utah which is about 40 minutes from where we live in Sandy, Utah. The park is open to different venues, events, (my daughters dance team, Studio 56 dance has had a competition there before) school events and they even have a campground for those who love to camp. During the fall season they offer Frightmares as a Halloween type treat. Lagoon has over 45 rides to choose from, truly something for everyone!
So back to why I went: The kids' school (grades 6-8) had a Lagoon day and needed drivers and I needed volunteer hours. Next thing I know I'm signed up for lagoon day... I am so very very grateful that I went. It was great hanging out with the other parents and teachers. The kids were shocked to see all of us parents having "fun" and riding the rides. Over and over again they would ask did you ride Wicked? Yep, "really????" and so on about all the "scarier" roller coaster rides.
I LOVED IT! OK so deep down inside I absolutley love the rush of a roller coaster ride. I am older now and the wood roller coaster beat me up so I do shy away from them. I don't care for the ones that leave you feeling like you should have worn a helmet on the ride, but besides that I am game for about any ride.
So if you are heading this way and are looking for something to do in Utah, I would put Lagoon on my list of to-do's for sure!

Farmington, Utah's Lagoon Amusement Park in Infrared

Being an Infrared Thermographer, I find capturing most all things in Infrared to be interesting. After doing an Infrared Home Inspection in Farmington Utah, I couldn't help but get the desire to see some roller coasters in Infrared.
I was standing outside the fence taking images and then I was run off by security. Taking pictures of park goers is apparntly not accepted which is quite understandable. Here are a few of the Infrared images I did manage to capture

Farmington, Utah Equine Thermal Imaging at the Legacy Event Center
If anyone lives around Farmington, Utah than they are well aware of the large horse community and popular equine events that bring in horse enthusist from hundreds of miles away.
Yesterday was the 2nd of the 3 day Easter Weekend Equine Events. Over 218 horses competed in the barrel racing event alone. It was a long but fun filled day for horse owners and especially for me being an Equine Thermographer. Being able to show horse owners things about their horse that they could have never seen without thermal imaging doesn't ever get old.
For several years, Utah Infrared has been saving home owners and home buyers thousands of dollars by providing infrared home and building inspections. Recently Utah Infrared became the Salt Lake City EquineIR representitive for the well known United Infrared EquineIR association to be able to provide the State of Utah with these advanced equine thermal imaging procedures. Horse owners and horse buyers can now save those thousands of dollars while detecting and also saving their horses from many preventable injuries.
Equine Thermal Imaging is the ONLY form of evaluation used for EARLY detection of problems BEFORE clinical signs are present. Inflammations can be detected several weeks before the horse begins to show any signs of trouble.
A comprehensive full body Equine Thermal Imaging Scan evaluated by a team of highly trained veternarians, thermographers and ferriers only costs $200.

Before Infrared Technology, Veterinarians could only locate problems using traditional methods such as observation and palpation. Now, using advanced Equine Thermal Imaging (EquineIR™ thermography), abnormalities present stressed tissues and inflammations even before damage occurs. This methodology has been developed and refined over the past twenty years and has been proven to be an effective equine imaging technique for the following:

With the financial turmoil the country is in many of my clients are asking me is it still a good time to buy a home? With home values dropping the past three years and many critics projecting them to drop again this year many think investing in real estate is to risky.

However, we must look at the whole picture when considering renting vs. buying a home. With anything there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of renting an apartment are obvious, you have little to no maintenance and it is very easy to pick up and move. On the flip side there are several advantages to owning a home. Do you know that it can be less expensive, in the long run, to buy a home?

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, it looks like Rent Hikes are on the Way. In fact, the report states that in some cities rents are already up 7-8%! Some advantages of buying a home are the feeling that it is yours and being able to paint the walls any color you want. There are also a few tax advantages of owning a home. Property taxes, mortgage interest and mortgage insurance can be tax deductible. Another advantage is the equity you are building in your new investment.
