The Open House Helpers

Patricia Kennedy: Real Estate Agent in Washington, DC

Today, I had a busy Open House in Arlington's Cherrydale. So busy, in fact, that not only was it an opportunity for me to find buyers and maybe earn a bit of income. It was also an opportunity for some young entrepreneurs next door to turn a little profit.

People were in and out of the house all afternoon, many families with young children. And in some cases, the parents were looking at the house in shifts, with one coming in while the other stayed in the car with the children, then they would trade off.

And to make sure that nobody got thirsty waiting in their cars, the kids next door set up a lemonade stand!

Everyone loved it. I didn't have to say anything that could get me into trouble about neighborhood demographics. It was pretty clear from the activity next door, which drew in lots of neighbors as well as thirsty home buyers!

And it was fun.

And I met some buyers who don't have agents yet.

And I'm pretty sure this one will get an offer very soon, thanks to the enterprising youngsters next door.

And the kids next door made enough to put a few bucks into their college funds.

When the current sellers bought this Arlington home, there was a lot to charm them. It is in Cherrydale, a great neighborhood with schools that got straight A’s on greatschools.org. The house itself has warm pine floors and an updated kitchen with granite counters. There is a sunny deck and great back yard.

But the great thing about this home is the front porch. It’s a wonderful place to spend your Sunday morning with a pitcher of fresh-squeezed orange juice and your Washington Post.

The home dates back to 1930, and it has a lot of charm from that era. There are built-in cabinets and the original pine floors. It’s been brought into the 20th century, with updated kitchen and baths and a 2-story addition with a family room and large master bedroom and bath.

And it's easy to find, just off of Lee Highway (to the North), and I'll be there between 2 and 4 this afternoon!
