I live in Windsor Park and have since 2005. My parents have lived here for almost 15 years. So I will admit to being a huge fan of this great, friendly, beautiful community.
I remember the first time I was sure that this would be a great place to raise my children. My oldest son Zachary was just a toddler and we were taking him trick or treating at his grandparent's house. I was so impressed with the groups of parents driving their children around in the back of their trucks, in trailers and even pulling a couple at a time in garden trailers behind their lawn mowers. The dads were standing around in the cul de sac's drinking beer and the mom's were maneuvering the kids in their cumbersome costumes to the various front doors. It was such a great visual of what this neighborhood is that I knew that I wanted to raise my son in that environment.
Last Halloween, 6 years after that first Halloween, my son was in the back of a hay filled trailer, surrounded by friends that he has known since they did the neighborhood playgroup together when he was two. He spent the night with a friend, exhausted from the excitement and all of the great candy!
Windsor Park also has a pool and clubhouse that we frequent during the Summer. It is a rare day that we go and don't find one friend or even many friends already there. The pool has a great shallow area that my youngest son loves to hang out in. There is a large circular staircase where the moms tend to hang out, feet dangling in the water, while their children swim nearby.
There is also a baby pool that is always a few degrees warmer than the big pool. Perfect for little ones or the older kids during adult swim. My boys also love the swingset nearby and run over to play during the life guards breaks and then when they get too hot they shower off the sand before jumping back into the 7big pool.
I am a big fan of the 4th of July in our neighborhood. We always have a neighborhood wide parade, with the kids decorating their bikes, scooter and ride ons and the parents running to keep up as the kids zoom ahead to the pool. Then everyone brings a dish to pass and grills out by the club house. One year the local fire department showed up and gave tours of their fire trucks and then hosed the kids down with their big fire hoses. It's a fun day for the whole family.
Friday Cheers throughout the Summer is a great social time for kids and adults. The kids swim and play while the adults bring a dish to pass and visit. The pool stays open until after dark for a unique experience for all.
Often there is a Christmas party at the club house and sometimes Santa even drops by to find out if the boys and girls have been good.
One of my favorite parts of living in Windsor Park, are the walking trails. There a quite a few of them that meander through the woods. My favorite loop takes me around the pond in the center of the neighborhood. There is a great gazebo overlooking the pond to sit in if you need a break.
The pond is a favorite spot to feed the ducks and geese or to go fishing. My oldest son caught his first catfish there. He was super proud and earned a belt loop in fishing for his wolf cub scout pack.
I have made many of my best friends here in Windsor Park. We have been in playgroups together, taken our children to the pool and to the playground together, trick or treated at each other's homes or just hung out in the cul de sac while out children played nearby.
Windsor Park is a unique neighborhood with large private lots, beautiful trees and wooded walking trails, a pond and a fabulous sense of community. If you are interested in becoming a neighbor of mine, give me a call at 804-937-0247 and I can fill you in on the homes that are available in our neighborhood. I think you will love it here as much as I have.
