A weekend getaway in Margaritaville with "fisherwomen & "domestic goddesses"

Bear Creek State Park-Appomattox Va.- I recently had a weekend get away with a group of 14 women including myself. We all had a good time at this beautiful cabin in the woods.

All the ladies except yours truly enjoyed the weekend with lots of margarita's. I'm not a party pooper just to let you know. That's just not my beverage of choice. Here's a tune suitable for the weekend

The weekend was full of adventure,fun and good food.

It had 6 bedrooms 3BA's a kitchen/dining area/living room with a fireplace and back deck

It felt and looked like a log cabin(very rustic)

BEAUTIFUL AND SPACIOUS KITCHEN/DINING AREA WHERE WE SHARED FOOD AND LAUGHTER

THERE WERE 2 BEDROOMS WITH A QUEEN BED IN EACH ROOM AT ONE END OF THE CABIN. I SLEPT (ACTUALLY DIDN'T SLEEP )IN ONE OF THESE ROOMS. THIS END OF THE CABIN ALSO HAD A HANDICAPPED SHOWER WITH A SEE THRU GLASS DOOR

DOWN THIS HALLWAY WAS 2 MORE BA'S AND 4 MORE BR'S

THIS END OF THE CABIN HAD 2 BEDROOMS THAT REMINDED ME OF WHEN I WAS KID AND TWO WHIHC 2 TWINS IN EACH ROOM

THE WEEKEND HAD FISHERWOMEN AND DOMESTIC GODDESSESES. IT IS NOT JUST MEN WHO HAVE THEIR PICS TAKEN WITH THEIR CATCH. WE HAD SEVERAL DOMESTIC GODDESSES AND HERE WAS ONE OF THEM THAT REALLY GOT INTO THE ROLE.

MY FRIEND TONI SAW A BEAR AND RAN FOR HER LIFE. I SAW THIS IN THE WATER. TAKE A GUESS .WHAT IT IS

THE LIVING ROOM WAS COZY WITH 2 COUCHES AND 2 CHAIRS AS WELL AS FIREPLACE TO WARM US ON A COOL EVENING

OUR ADVENTURE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN COMPLETE WITH OUT LOTS OF GOOD FOOD ,GAMES ,

A STAMP CRAFTING PROJECT AND A GROUP PHOTO TO REMEMBER THE FUN AND ADVENTURE AND A LAST GOODBYE OUTDOOR WITH THE ONES THAT WERE LAST TO LEAVE

THE GANG WANTED ME IN THE PHOTO BUT DIDN'T WANT TO, SO THEY CHANTED MY NAME AND GOT ONE WITH ME IN IT BUT I DON'T HAVE IT ON MY CAMERA. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE WEEKEND GETAWAY REVISITED

October in Appomattox, Virginia: HISTORIC APPOMATTOX RAILROAD FESTIVAL

I love Fall in Virginia: the crisp air, the leaves changing colors, apple picking and all of those Festivals.

I received a call this afternoon from a gentleman who read a blog I wrote last year on the Appomattox Railroad Festival. He's planning to come to this year's events and asked about the local accomodations.

The 36th Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival will be held on Main Street, downtown Appomattox. This has become one of the largest festivals in Virginia drawing over 30,000 people in 2006 and shouldn't be missed. This year the festival takes place the weekend of October 11-12, 2008. Appomattox is located approximately 30 minutes from Lynchburg.

Norfolk & Southern Railroad donated the Appomattox Depot to the Town of Appomattox. This street will be packed with people enjoying the parade, live music, arts & craft vendors, food, demonstrations, games and rides for the kids. There are lots of great shops on Main Street to peruse. Don't forget to visit the railroad station where there are train exhibits on display.

A short drive away is Appomattox Court House, where General Lee surrendered to General Grant on April 9, 1865. You can enjoy both locations - Come for a visit!

April 9, 1865 -- Appomattox, the Civil War Ended at the McLean House

Today marks the 143rd anniversary of Lee and Grant signing documents that ended the Civil War in the sleepy little Southern town of Appomattox in the McLean House nestled in the village. Sorry I didn't include a photo (been too busy trying to keep clients happy). Now, why would I blog about this? Well, I am from Appomattox and guess where my first job was -- I was a tour guide at the McLEAN HOUSE!!! (That probably started my fascination with homes and explains why I love this crazy business we're in). That's right, I had an aunt who worked as one of the administrators there, they needed another seasonal tour guide, and she thought I would be perfect. And I loved it! I was amazed at how many people would come from all over the world and sign our little registers just to experience this bit of American history. Some of the nicest people you could ever meet. It was a privilege, really, the pay was low (almost volunteer), but the experience was awesome. No, I don't live in Appomattox anymore. I now live in Forest, VA west of Appomattox (a few miles from Poplar Forest, you know, Thomas Jefferson's summer home). Wow, I guess I do have a fascination with HOMES!
