Bristol VA Schools Close 3.9.12 To Support VA High's Basketball Team in Final Four!

Bristol VA Superintendent Mark Lineburg stated that the School Board has agreed to close all Schools this Friday because so many teachers and students alike will be traveling up the road to Richmond to support the Bearcats Boy's Basketball Team in their first final four trip in 52 years!

As many of you know my wife Aimee teaches at VA High School and says the students are super excited to be making the trip ....she also states that they will be tailgating from midnight till the "Spirit School Bus" leaves at 4am Friday morning!

Here's wishing The Bearcats all the best and that they come back #1!

Local Virginia High School Teacher Picked as One Of The Top In The State! ...Wins Award For Activities in The Classroom!

Economics and Personal Finance is hardly thought of when mentioning the classroom. The 3 R's (reading, writing and arithmetic)are more likely to come to mind. However, as the times change and our country changes, students need education in managing money than ever before.

The Virginia Council for Economic Education recently recognized the state of Virginia's best teachers in the area of money management. Awards were given out in December of 2011 in Richmond at the Regional Federal Reserve Bank to teachers who are dedicated to teaching their students about personal finances for now and in the future. I had the pleasure of attending with my wife as she won her award! This class will be required for students (who are now freshman in 2011-2012) before they graduate.

Awards were given for activities in the classroom that involve budgeting, saving and investing. In addition, students in these classes learn about financial institutions, balancing a check book, loans, credit, playing the stock market all with hands on projects to make learning more enjoyable and more memorable!

Give a big shout-out to all those teachers who are out there making a difference!

Bristol VA Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball ...Alive and Well!

Aimee and I had the opportunity to go watch our nephew (Alex #2) play basketball this past Saturday morning and I'm here to let you know it's all good here in Bristol VA!

Alex plays for the Hokies who didn't fair too well this day as they lost, but there's always next time!
