About Portsmouth City County, VA

Portsmouth is the home to the Navy Shipyard as well as the Naval Hospital. A great area of historic charm and elegance, and a great area to scout out excellent deals. Located near Downtown Norfolk in Hampton Roads, it is centrally located and has plenty to offer. With interest rates cut to around the 4%, this is an excellent time to take advantage of the market and a great deal! The new APM Terminal in Portsmouth is currently paying $4 million in real estate taxes and $2.7 million in personal property taxes. The one thing they haven't been charged for is the giant cranes and there are six of them. They could either be personal or real property. The tax rate is different for each catagory. The cranes are being classified as real property and Portsmouth must now decide if wants to collect the tax retroactively.

Went to the Portsmouth, and Norfolk Va illumination parade today, it was a brisk 30 something degrees but lots of fun, recommendations for next year bring your own coffee. We got there early had some drinks in water side and then went out for the parade. There was minimal traffic and the kids loved it. The bands and floats that came by were great.

There are many historic neighborhoods in the tidewater, Hampton Roads area of Virginia. One that I particularly like in Port Norfolk in Portsmouth. Here are some of my reasons:

1. Affordable living - home prices are in a great range for our market - I showed a property to a young couple this week that is about $215,000, almost 3,000 square feet, can be a duplex or single family. Wow! what a great price. And potential for historic district tax credits!

2. Character - the homes in this historic district are mostly turn of the century or early-mid 1990s. Very cool construction and architectural features - wood floors, picture rails, front porches, claw-foot tubs,the list goes on!

3. Neighborhood- This waterfront community is great for dog walking, There are playgrounds, schools, and shops in the area. And it is a great location - Just 5 minutes to downtown Norfolk (granted this changes with traffic in the mid-town tunnel) and easy access to highways. Walk or ride your bike to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital...
