Portsmouth Newest Elementary School

Denise Allen Realtor@ Chesapeake, Hampton Roads: Real Estate Agent in Chesapeake, VA

Didn't know they had one and they don't. Portsmouth school officials are trying to find funding to build a new elementary school but with the economy in the drink it won't be until 2013 and will cost millions more then if it were built today. School officials are thinking about a public-private venture so the that school can be started in 2009. One thought is to have a private company company build the school and the schoold division lease it back for 20 years. At the end of the 20 years, Portsmouth would own the school.

Johnson's Crab House To Stay

Denise Allen Realtor@ Chesapeake, Hampton Roads: Real Estate Agent in Chesapeake, VA

Portsmouth in its infinite wisdom has decided not to acquire Johnson's Crab House by eminent domain. Originally back in May 2007 the city passed an ordinance to take the waterfront property and family owned business in Park View. The city was going to put in a much needed park. Much debate has taken place over this. In all fairness, the Crab House was looking real bad but the owners have fixed it up and it looks much better now.

Lots Of Cats

Denise Allen Realtor@ Chesapeake, Hampton Roads: Real Estate Agent in Chesapeake, VA

A townhome in the Churchland area of Portsmouth was recently entered by public officials wearing protective hazardous material gear. No not because of a biological agent but because of 40 cats and a dog. The house was rancid with urine and feces. People were actually living in the place. The Virginia Beach SPCA and Nofolk SPCA picked up some of the cats which were malnourished and dehydrated. The house itself was condemened because of its condition.

Portsmouth to wipe out the homeless

Gene Allen Realtor Hampton Roads Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Virginia Beach, VA

This sounds pretty bad but what it means is that the city of Portsmouth will enact a 10 year plan to wipe out the homeless in the city. I said it again wrong. Portsmouth wants to collect better data on the homeless, focus on prevention, expand housing, and identify other resources to help with the problem. Part of the plan is to commit money to pay for single room occupancy apartments to get people off the streets. It is a plan and even if it doesn't work fully it will certainly be a start.
